Seriously not impressed on any level & the only saving grace was the quality of the food, although even that took an incredibly long time to arrive from point of service! Essentially, as we approached through the sea of luxury designer handbags, laddened with our own early morning, pricey acquisitions from Selfridges itself, we were nonchalantly met by Giovanni, whom stared at us blankly without a cheery hello or even good morning & he didn't even bother to get up from his seat behind the reception desk, which we felt was plain rude & ignorant! We asked for a table for two; "what for?" He asked!
"Breakfast!" We replied, quite in disbelief at the attitude & tone we encountered! Upon being seated at the bar, we were met by an equally nonchalant, unfriendly Larry, whom despite us ordering a bottle champagne, failed to crack a smile or offer any pleasantries! Given this bar is situated within a high end shopping destination the level of service leaves much to be desired, it was absolutely disgrace & we wee appalled by the total lack of customer service! We observed the Waiting Staff hover about the bar & restaurant area without any sense of purpose or any interest in their job or their Customers & actually all bickered most openly which is extremely unprofessional & highly disrespectful! We ordered eggs benedict & choriz hash brown with field mushroom & poached egg which took almost thirty (30) minutes from ordering to arrival which frankly is excessive, if not ridiculous given there were less than ten (10) Customers! This is not the first occasion in which we have been highly disappointed with the service here & only just two (2) weeks ago we actually walked out after frustratingly waiting in excess of fifteen (15) minutes to get any service after being seated! This really is not an acceptable level of service or conduct & some serious customer service training needs to be deployed & with immediate effect, particularly since the delivery certainly does not match expectation & is not consistent with the ethos of Selfridges or the brands in which it markets! As I began, the only saving grace was the quality of the food when it finally arrived! Proceed with caution as this is one establishment where it can safely be said; "all that glitters is not gold!"

Stopped at The balcony whilst shopping in Selfridges. Lovely fresh space with quality cocktails and drinks. We didn't eat but the food looked lovely. Great service. A fab peaceful place to rest your feet on a busy shopping day!!

Stopped off for lunch during a mid week shopping trip. The restaurant was busy but not frantic and the service was quick but not rushed. I really like the open air aspect and even though I didn't sit by the edge of the balcony I enjoyed the feeling of an oasis of calm amongst the hubbub of the shoppers. Although i stayed with a glass of Rose many other diners had cocktails from an interesting list and I can see this as a really good place to enjoy a pick me up at the end of a long day. Would definitely go back next time I'm in Birmingham.

Went last week for a light bite as everywhere else in Selfridges was rammed. Seated quite quickly but it helped there was just two of us to seat as this was also busy. Service was polite and reasonably efficient. My main gripes were: tables too close together - ok space is at a premium but a little privacy would not be a bad thing; it took forever for 2 glasses of tap water to turn up; and 2 pieces of bread per person on a cheese board is a bit mingy ( especially if you thn have to pay £3 for another 3 slices!). Definitely a good place to go if you're having drinks and feel like some rather nice champagne. Will need some more convincing over the food.
