“Ok for a Premier Inn first-timer”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

I stayed here whilst attending an event at the NEC.The service from the reception was first-rate: very professional, polite and helpful staff. Room was fine with a big reasonably comfy bed. Hotel is quiet as it is quite remote, and I slept well. Power shower good. Slight niggles such as a poorly flushing toilet, an odd smell to one of the towels, I found the a/c too noisy so turned it off, and no text service on the freeview tv which was frustrating given that there is only 30 mins free wifi.

Restaurant service not up to same standard as hotel (I had concerns about some aspects of hygiene and some staff seemed a bit dizzy), food quality not great (self-service breakfast was rather standard) although evening meal was served quickly.

Location is suited to motorists over rail users; unless you get a taxi it is a 20 minute walk from Birmingham International Station. Also as there is nothing in the vicinity of the hotel you will need to book a taxi if you want to eat away from the hotel or go out in the evenings. Also, there was not a clear pedestrian route from the NEC to the Premier Inn that didn't involve climbing a boundary fence on their lawn.

This was my first time at a Premier Inn. In summary I suppose it met my expectations rather than exceeding them, but it was still a pleasant stay overall with no major complaints.

Stayed here for a late impulse weekend visit to Birmingham.

Room was only £47 for a double on an advanced saver.

Reception staff were really friendly and helpful, even recommending and offering to book a table at a nice restaurant locally.

Room was immaculate with an impressive power shower more akin to a higher class hotel.

The only, but major issue we had was that the cleaning staff woke us banging on the bedrooms in our corridor at 830am. Bear in mind that check out is 12pm and in this day in age it would be very easy to see what rooms were occupied or vacated early, I found this both annoying and inexcusable, particularly when they did this on our door!

At checkout we mentioned this and the receptionist was apologetic and said it would be dealt with. As I felt so strongly on this point I mentioned the 'good night guarentee' and the room was instantly refunded.

Well done and thank you..... please just sort the room service crews out!

Will definitely be back

NB - Be very aware most SAT NAV's will get you lost and the hotel is not well sign posted at all. The first and only sign is about 100 yards from the roundabout. More signs needed.

Use the Holiday Inn as a guide and follow the road down to the next roundabout if you get lost (opp side of the road)

dont normally write reviews about premier inns as in general they are 'average', however this stay highlighted the growing gap between premier inn and holiday inn express. Two night stay, room not serviced on second day with no appology when I asked for a top up of tea etc. Ate in the restaurant in the hotel both days..overpriced pub food which took almost an hour to arrive despite the restaurant being less than half full. Staff appeared indifferent when I complained.Breakfast is expensive (included at any HI Express) and only half hour free internet. Premier Inns need to do much better. If there is a Holiday Inn Express nearby I will be using that as I am sure many business travellers do!

We tend to stay here the night before we fly out on holiday. I think last year parking was much cheaper. No matter how far in advance we try, we can never get one of the great deals . The value is still OK. Some nearby hotels also have stay and park offers however, it is off site. Airport taxi was ordered by Reception and arrived early. The only thing missing is the availability an early morning breakfast.

Room Tip: I would prefer a children's bed that folded out close to the floor rather than a single bed. I...

Booked because of generally positive reviews. Price was a bit more than some other nearby places.

Phone in room didn't work. Had to physically go to front desk *twice* for another towel - only 1 was provided in the bathroom.

The bed was very hard. Poor night's sleep the night before an international flight.

We won't stay here again.

Maybe a construction fault rather than that of Premier Inn (who likely commissioned the build) but nevertheless the net result is the same. Whilst external noise is blocked out really well, internally the plumbing, floors and paper walls lend themselves to a very neighbourly experience indeed.

Other than that very good - sadly I stay in hotels to get some sleep though(!)

Not one for honeymooners ;)

Stayed here for the gadget show live at the NEC. Very helpful staff who gave directions and any advice needed. Bedroom was standard Premier Inn fare, nice big bed, comfortable enough without being outstanding in any area.

Restaurant was mediocre at best - food not great or cheap and breakfast very greasy.
