Premier Inn Birmingham Nec/Airport Hotel
Ranked #29 of 118 Hotels in Birmingham
Reviewed 18 December 2013

Great location, close to the airport, motor ways & of course the NEC. I had several meetings over the 2 days, both to the east and west and the hotel was ideally situated for both directions.

Wi-Fi is only free for 30mins but it only costs £3 for 24 hours after that which is excellent and correct price point - also the Wi-Fi is excellent throughout the hotel and allows for productive time in the evenings emailing etc.

Food is good value and the breakfast has a good choice and good quality.

Just one thing, like a lot of hotels I cannot understand why they have no ironing board in their rooms!!

I would definitely stay here again.

I,ll keep it simple, i found the room clean & comfortable the usual Prem Inn standard. Breakfast excellent value, evening meal slow expensive & quality is nothing to shout home about. There is now a £6 for 24hr car park charge.
Location for NEC excellent, we walked it to main door in 10 mins or as the hotel is right next door to the North car park you could just hop on an NEC shuttle bus ( sshh, i didnt tell you that) all in all excellent.
As someone else said dont rely on sat nav to get to the hotel because you do end up at the holiday inn, a little stressy but we did find Prem Inn eventually. I would definately stay here again.

I've stayed at premier inn before but this was different. We were not welcomed into the hotel and were not asked how our stay was. Veggie food took ages to come out, my egg had a shell in and spider in the bed!

We stayed for 1 evening sat 14th dec, nice easy check in, good clean room, nice bar staff, breakfast good. Only problem was walk from birmingham international train station 25mins including climbing over a couple of fences. Poor lighting in room, my husband and i were attending a black tie event at the nec, found the lighting in the room pretty poor and the mirror was broken in our room hence 4 stars. You'll need to get a taxi, to and from the nec/ train station costs a fiver. We paid £85 for room and breakfast, plus £15 in taxis to and from the nec. So not exactually a bargain.

Nice hotel no problems there breakfast great only real grumble was I rang hotel to see distance from LG Arena as was taking my children there to see show, was told five minute walk. Hmmm it is a ten min taxi ride and 20 min walk and a walk you would not want to do with small children.

Firstly I'm not one of those moaners who finds fault with every little thing. However, I had to share my thoughts on this hotel. The positives: the room was fine. We had a family room which was clean and did the job. Breakfast was good: well stocked with efficient staff. Now, onto the negatives. We had booked a family room for the night as we were seeing a show at the arena. We decided to eat in the restaurant downstairs before going out. To cut a long story short, we were waiting 40 mins for our main course. We had to go and find a member of staff who chased up our order. When it did arrive, mine had obviously been cooked in a great hurry. Whilst eating we could smell smoke really strongly. The smokers were congregating outside close to the restaurant entrance. At one point we could smell weed and people at nearby tables were commenting on how strong the smell was too. Sticking with the smoking theme, to get into the hotel we had to fight our way through a gang of smokers . It seems the 'smoking area' is right in front of the main doors ! After finishing our meal we asked for the bill so we could pay and get to the arena. Our server brought the card machine over and seemed to be having problems with it. She was huffing and puffing and getting herself into a real state. It was really awkward so we tried making conversation but she just ignored us. She continued to battle with the card machine and eventually swore ([--]!). Not good considering our 8 year old was with us. Sadly we didn't get a good nights sleep. We could hear the people in the room above stomping around - we've never experienced this in a Premier Inn before. Also, in the early hours, there was a gang of 'ladies' outside our room screaming and shouting (ok, not the hotel's fault but it added to our bad experience). Checkout wasn't exactly slick. There was no member of staff on reception so we just stood around and waited with some other guests for about 15 mins until someone eventually turned up and took our key cards off us - no 'how was your stay ?' etc. All in all - could do better!
