we have eaten here on many occasions and the food is always 'great'. even better than many '2 star' restaurants. Unfortunately, recent changes in management have made this less attractive and what was once always a fabulous experience has now lost its sparkle.

New rules on lunchtime dining (e.g. last orders cut off times) have meant that this is less relaxed and easy going than before. that said, we can't fault the food

Stayed here for our wedding anniversary.Only four rooms but our room was beautiful .We stayed in the French room so lovely.Bathroom immaculate large and very attractive. We ate in the restaurant and had an amazing meal .The service throughout the whole stay was excellent. The only problem we had was the next morning it was very noisy the staff were obviously bottling up and setting up for the restaurant. There was also quit a lot of noise from the next room. This is very sad because the staff really did everything to make our stay lovely. We had breakfast in our room which came on a lovely tray with lovely homemade bread and pastries.

Travelled to Birmingham to take my wife to see 'Rod Stewart' at NEC for her birthday and to make it extra special I booked for us to stay at Simpsons overnight with lunch there the next day.
We had previously enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Simpson for our daughters graduation last year so were really looking forward to returning.
I am afraid it all turned out to be a disaster
No one about when we arrived ---had to go in and find someone to help with bags
Booked into ( lovely ) room and went down to bar for drink and something to eat before heading off to NEC. No food available! Went back to room for shower/bath---no hot water. Nespresso coffee machine not working--promised to fix/exchange ( didnt happen). No WiFi in room despite being advertised.
As we were leaving for NEC we were told hot water couldnt be fixed that eve but we could move to Marriot--wasnt an option as we would have missed concert so we decided to stay and make do with cold water!
Got up for breakfast at 8am ( lunch booked 12.30). Breakfast was a small bowl of berries, small bowl of 'stale' topping ,glass of juice ,yoghurt ,breads & tea & coffee.---nothing else available.Even though advertised as 'continental ' I think it is fair to say you would expect more than this in this standard of hotel--nobody except night porter ( who also served us)available
Managed eventually to speak to manager at 10am--offered a discount but after discussion agreed to refund in full
Needless to say we didnt stay for planned lunch and travelled home early feeling really let down and disappointed.

Room Tip: Despite the high cost to stay here this is obviously a restaurant with 'rooms' --not a luxur...

I hadn't visited Simpsons for sometime and have always had beautiful food and excellent service but ourcrecent visit for Sunday lunch was extremely disappointing . The food was lovely the service was not of the usual standard . We had an unnecessary lengthy wait between courses . We had asked to be moved due to sunlight streaming through conservatory roof which was uncomfortable . The manager was quite dismissive and off hand all the other waiting staff were extremely polite . It's supposed to be a special place and pleasant dining experience unfortunately this time it wasn't

I've been lucky enough to eat here several times now, so picked it for our (belated!) Christmas meal as a treat. The food was as good as ever - amazing amuse bouche of curried artichoke soup with walnut foam, followed by scallop ravioli and beef - but was very disappointed by the service. Let me explain...

We arrived to find the door shut. We rang the doorbell and banged on the door, seeing staff walking through the hall. It took five minutes for someone to open the door, by which time we were frozen. It took 45 minutes for us to be seated, despite booking in advance and the restaurant being only half full.

One of our party was veggie, and made this clear to waiting staff at the start of the evening. Twice she ordered dishes that contained meat or gelatine, with one course having to be whisked away from under her nose as she was about to take her first bite.

The waiting staff were apologetic but the lustre was taken off the evening, despite complimentary limoncello (although it was wasted on one of the party who was off booze for Lent and had been on soft drinks all evening).

Don't get me wrong: I love the food here, but the service was really disappointing on this occasion.

My room was extremely well appointed. Great huge bed - fabulous!! Great coffee making machine in the room, fresh fruit, bottled water.

Bathroom was spacious.

Food in the evening was 5*. Really enjoyable.

Great place for a romantic meal and a night away with your loved one.

Please note that the location is nothing special. This place is located on a relatively busy road, however, it did not spoil my enjoyment.
