From the moment we pulled up to the unmarked building we knew our stay was going to be good. A member of staff stood on the front step smiled and offered to park our car for us. Very cool! We didn't even have to pay him. We were stunned as we walked into the lobby, a huge chandelier loomed above us - made us feel very glamourous (its like stepping back in time)
Once in the room, we couldn't believe how nice the place was. Bath tub in the room was calling me straight away but I resisted until later as a big walk in shower provided as quicker way for me to get down to the bar. I didn't really want to leave the room but we had seen photos of the bar on twitter and couldn't resist. We love our cocktails!
Greeted once more and asked where we would like to sit, the bar seemed inviting and so we sat on the comfy bar stools provided. As soon as we sat down we were poured water (with cucumber in) which was a nice touch as the menu is huge! The bartender was really helpful with the menu and even offered to make something up just for me. We watched him do his magic and they tasted amazing but not as amazing as the second round hahaha
The bartender called us a taxi and we sneaked in a quick glass of champagne before it arrived. When we arrived back at the hotel a different waitress greeted us in the lobby but knew exactly where we had been for dinner (which was brilliant - Lasan) How did she know? We loved that
We snagged the exact same bar stools we were sat at before dinner and we asked the bartender, his name was Rob, to recommend something sweet for after dinner. We got a King Kong (banana-y rummy goodness) and this thing called a Milk & Cookies (served in a little milk bottle with a stripy straw AND A COOKIE!!!) It was like heaven in a glass.
We decided to have one more before bed, I opted for the signature cocktail called the Edgbaston which was unlike anything I have drunk before, Rob explained the flavours and how they worked but with some technical speak I have never heard before from a bartender. He sounded like Heston. My boyfriend went for a Kisch Tort which was chocolate and cherry with Champagne which was also really delicious when I remember our big bath tub was waiting in the room. We took our cocktails up to the room and drank them in the bath! So much luxury, I always wanted to do that. We almost popped one of the bottles of champagne in the mini bar but decided against it! (next time maybe)
Breakfast was laid out on the bar where we had cocktails in the evening and was a nice continental breakfast, not too much but a good selection of bagels and coissonts etc. We were offered a hot menu of eggs benedict and such but decided to stick with toast and lots of OJ.
All in all, the edgbaston provided great friendly service with stunning cocktails worthy of their reputation and incredible rooms for such a modest price. We will be back (very soon hopefully)
