Good points - staff friendly and helpful - food good quality and portions - good value for money - good channel selection on TV - good location - free wifi.

Bad points - the hotel is circular and therefore, whilst the outside rooms are large (I've had one in the past) the internal rooms are odd. The room door opens with the bathroom next to it and then the bed, finally tapering to the width of the window, kinda like a cheese wedge. The view of the internal light well is very Blade Runner - all concrete and no sky - and the overall effect is a bit claustrophobic. The hotel itself feels a little dated.

Would I stay here again - definately, but oh for an outside room!

Room Tip: Get an outside room if you can.

Stayed here again last night and was disappointed. Room was about the same although the fire alarm went off four times! Mostly between 10:30 and 12...but also at 4:30am which pleased me greatly!! :( Found it very hard to get back to sleep after that. Food in the restaurant was the big let-down though. Menu is completely different and although they offer a meal deal the quality was pretty poor. I had prawn cocktail (average) pork steak in sauce (I forget what sauce - tasted like oxo gravy) with chips and chocolate pudding and ice cream (ok) for £21:95. There are lots of better places to eat nearby - I would go to them if I were you...

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the road are much better than rooms looking into the central well..but are more ex...

We were a group of friends spending weekend in Birmingham and decided to stay just outside the city centre, The Menzies Strathallan was the place to stay, close enough to get in quickly and cheaply by taxi but also on a main bus route right outside hotel. The staff on reception were so friendly and when one of the party felt they would prefer a lower floor were able to change with no problems. Bar staff were again friendly and professional and if you get to eat in the hotel then you are in for a treat, food well presented and of a high standard, breakfast good with plenty of choice. The only down side may be in the summer it has no air con to the rooms, but this wasnt an issue with us this time of the year, inside rooms a little on the small side, but for what time we spent in room was adequate. Unfortunaly one of the party on the last night was unwell and had to be admited to the local hospital, again staff were able to help with this and when his wife had to stay an extra night due to this admission the hotel staff made sure she was able to stay in the room they were already booked into, and did everything they could to make her feel comfortable as the rest of the party had to get home. Oh you must visit the Botanical gardens which are a walk away from the hotel, or short hop in taxi if you not good walkers. Taxis cheaper than in the local town where we live

Room Tip: Inside rooms small and with no view, but away from the road so quiet.

First impressions were not great as the hotel is not particularly well signposted and I had to call for directions which were not terribly helpful.

But on arrival the reception staff were helpful and the interior comfortable and modern.   The room was very small but clean and comfortable.  There was no view at all but this was not really an issue as I was only staying for the one night.

There was a problem with whether a drink was included with dinner which was not clearly explained by either the waiting staff or the menu.  To be fair after a heated debate the restaurant manager did adjust the bill accordingly but I would suggest venturing further afield for dinner if you can in search of both better food and service.

I wrote a review in March 2011 where I was somewhat critical of the Strathallen hotel. I didn't have a great room and breakfast was a questionable experience. Well credit where it's due ..... I stayed there again this week and enjoyed a much better stay all round. I took an "executive room" at a decent price of £89 including breakfast and am pleased to report that the room was excellent, clean, spacious and quiet. The breakfast was also really good - a wide selection of buffet style hot fresh food plus eggss cooked to order. They've introuduced car parking charges since last time which was a slight disappointment but at £3.50 a night it hardly broke the bank. They've also got a decent little gym installed on the ground floor with some expensive kit in there (note get in early as it only takes about 6 - 7 people max). All in all it just felt a very different and improved experience from last time so well done the Strathallen team - in the words of Mr Schwarzeneger ..... "I'll be back"
