( The hotel is a circular building) The rooms on the outer circle are large, fine and decorated to very high standard. The inner circle rooms are furnished to high standard also, but just on the small side. There are plenty of pubs and restaurants close by if you did not want to eat at the hotel. The breakfast is also very good and the staff are very accommodating. Overall a very good hotel.

Perfect for fans of 1970s nostalgia, this slightly converted multi-storey car park is perfect for those whose company's hotel policy explicitly stipulates anthroposophical beige to make you lose your appetite. If that doesn't work, there's always the restaurant. The room is big enough, the wifi works and fittingly parking isn't a problem, but the decor is straight out of a Mark IV Cortina 1.6L and all there is outside is Birmingham. Food is straight from the Berni Inn cookbook. Just avoid if you possibly can.

Strath01, General Manager at Hallmark Hotel Birmingham Strathallan, responded to this reviewResponded 14 March 2014

Dear Guest
Thank you for leaving feedback and was sorry to hear that you seemed disappointed with your stay.
The building was built in the 1970s as a hotel and was not converted, I also think the architect was quite clever as to ensure that enough parking was made available to all guests in the space made available unlike a lot of hotels in the city centre.
The hotel has had over 2.5 million pounds spent on it over the past 5 years which has added a contemporary feel to the hotel.
You also make a reference to Berni inns who have been going for over 50 years, which is a great testament I believe in this day and age with new restaurants constantly opening. We offer a good variety of dishes on our menu's and believe we cater for most of our guests.
Kind regards
Kevin Williams
General manager

Near centre location easy accessible via bus service. Compact clean room with no view lifts could do with refurbishing. Good evening meal and breakfast selection. under cover parking great. Would stay again.

Room Tip: An outside room is desirable.

The reception was pleasant and welcoming. The manager was lovely however the receptionist seemed to talk at you than to you. The room was lovely. It was clean and the bed was one of the best we've ever slept in, in a hotel. We couldn't figure out how to use the heater and the attention from the staff couldn't be faulted.

We did have some problems. There was a mix up with the rooms but this was soon rectified. We were also kept awake all night from an overflow of water banging against the window. We were assured a manger would get back to us when they came on duty the next morning. This did not happen. We followed up with a call after our stay and we were then contacted by the manager who couldn't be more apologetic and helpful.

This hotel is lovely, it is definately a 4 star, beautiful inside and bedrooms are hugee, clean and well equipped. It is one of the best hotels i have stayed at. Only downer was the older lady on reception on saturday morning on check out, not particularly pleasant or friendly, just took the keys and didnt even ask how the stay was or anything.

Apart from her, a nice stay overall, and situated on a road with plenty of restaurants and TGI Fridays :)

We were a bit concerened about the reviews we had read so were pleasantly surprised by every-thing, we had a large room (626,outward facing) a very comfortable king size bed and a spotless bathroom. We booked through Late-Rooms.com and only paid £99 for 2 nights with a free evening meal on our 1st night. The meal was very nice and the staff were most helpful. On both mornings the breakfast was brilliant.Free wi-fi is always welcome and a TV with a great selection of channels including Sky sports and a controller that actually worked. There was free car parking as well. We had gone for an event at the NIA and decided to stay a couple of nights and were more than happy with the Menzies Strathallan, Birmingham.

Room Tip: We were in room 626 which was outward facing.
