“Fantastic Restoration,”
Review of The Aston Tavern

The Aston Tavern
Ranked #515 of 2,533 Restaurants in Birmingham
Price range: US$495 - US$1,495
Description: Situated North-East of Birmingham City Centre, the Aston Tavern was restored and extended in 2013 after sitting empty for over 20 years. Surrounded by its quaint and longstanding Edwardian features the tavern boasts a contemporary and stylish wrap around extension that seats up to 300 guests. It is the obvious choice for any couple getting married at the historic Aston Hall, the beautiful listed St Peter & Paul Church next door and is just a stone’s throw from the Aston Villa ground. A tavern has stood here since Tudor times with reports that it was a much-beloved venue for the locals during the late Victorian era. The pub as it stands today was built in 1904, just before Birmingham’s industrial growth enveloped the town of Aston.

I remember the Aston Tavern from the days before it was closed down and abandoned, and always thought it was too good to loose as it was a proper local pub, so i was really pleased when it re-opened a few years ago.

I have been in quite a few times since it re-opened, but only on match days when it's full to bursting, so going for tea on a Sunday afternoon was a new, an very enjoyable experience, in a beautifully restored bar. If you like traditional bars you'll love this one!

When the tavern is full it's difficult to fully appreciate what a fantastic job the owners have done, and how many of the original features have been saved / restored. If you add the new features like the beer garden, the up-coming hotel rooms and the cafe you have a really great venue.

The Tavern is easy to get to from the motorway or City Centre, and only a couple of minute away from Aston Hall, so well worth a visit if your passing by

Surprisingly busy visit today, it is normal quiet in there.

The place looks finished inside.

Lots of eating space all round pub. It has a central court yard garden with a fountain & big grassed beer garden area too.

Local road parking when we went.

2 floors of accommodation upstairs. 9 rooms up right hand side corridor, everything looks brand new, plastic covering over all the beds. Each room tastefully decorated.

The money spent on doing this place up most be a small fortune. No expense spared judging by the fittings.

Growing up in the area I remember the shell of a pub the Tavern used to be. It is simply stunning! I've introduced family and friends to this gem of a place for drinks, gorgeous afternoon teas and events. Can't wait until the next film night

What a little gem! A mixture of traditional olde worlde pub with big leather chairs, and then a huge modern dining area and outdoor seating. The young girl who was running the restaurant solo, took the 5 breakfast orders in her stride and coped admirably, serving us great food. I wonder how many have passed by this great pub on the motorway, without realising it's there? It's well worth seeking out
