We should have guessed that we were going to be in for a noisy night when we noticed earplugs placed on the bedside table in our bedroom on our arrival. I know that wedding income is more important than individual guest bookings but it would have been more sensible to place all the wedding guests on the noisier side of the hotel. When I phoned down to complain, the night porter said nothing could be done and I should put in the earplugs until the music was turned off at 1 am. We would not stay again.

Room Tip: Away from the noisy wedding reception area.

Fresh sandwiches, scrumptious cakes and a decent cup if tea in wonderful surroundings. Friendly staff. A long walk for my disabled mother would be my only complaint. We had a wonderful relaxed afternoon with a reasonably priced bottle of prosecco.

Stayed in the old house in a quirky but comfortable room. Furnished in the style of the house, so not your usual corporate hotel decor. Room was on the dark side, being large, with only a small, but very old window overlooking the courtyard at the front. Love the ambience but the breakfast is not up to scratch, for the price paid. Had better breakfasts in a travel lodge! (They are pretty good these days). They need to restock, and cook the bacon properly. Also service was stretched. Really in a hotel of this quality I would expect cook to order. Having said that the hotel does make a lovely mini break especially if the sun is shining and you can wander in the grounds.

Arriving late at night I was not prepared for the scale or ambience of the hotel with its grand approach, moat and courtyards. A sense of the Disney-esque hits you when you go through the vaulted archway to reception and this same style is uniform across the whole hotel. Extraordinary architecture, a sense of mystery, heavy fabric and medievalism pervades every room. Great breakfast in the wonderfully light and grand conservatory. Well appointed rooms. A destination in itself. Not to be missed!

Room Tip: Grand old rooms and suites are in the old abbey buildings, more modern (but ancient clad) rooms in t...

My family and I want for afternoon tea on Sunday June 9th as part of a belated birthday party meal for my wife, who had been ill at the time of her birthday in January.

We were rather disappointed with the actual portions of food served for 9 persons and that the service was both slow and disjointed.Tge menu said we could have refills of coffee, but the only one we got was at the end of the meal, despite a number of requests. Not once we're we asked if everything was OK during our time at the table. I have since complained and been offered some recompense, but the day itself was rather a let down for us all, especially my wife and daughter( who had booked the meal).

We will go again to use a voucher we have been offered and hope things go better next time.

Popped in for an overnight. Building & decor is stunning. The grounds are lovely. Try and get in a walk round the grounds after breakfast before you checkout. The rooms are novel! Has everything you need. Food was good and was reasonably priced as were the drinks.
