“Don't be put off!!!”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

I was dreading arriving at this hotel having read previous reports but having not paid very much for a 3 night stay with National tours thought I'll make my own mind up. Arrival did not help as the hotel does look tired and dated but once inside I was pleasantly surprised. Yes it is a little worn around the edges but like others on here found my room to be clean and comfortable, towels and tea and coffee replenished daily, I had booked a single room but was given a double which was very nice. We were given timings for the restaurant and besides a problem on our last day due to kitchen staff not turning up things went smoothly. I found the meals to be ok, yes people waited for plates and food to be replenished on occasion but with the amount of people eating at one time was only to be expected. Had no complaints on the evening meals and the breakfasts were great. Stayed in the hotel in the evenings and the offer on the bar from 7 till 9 made it very reasonable. All in all I would say it was very good value for money, had a very enjoyable few days with nice people seeing some lovely places, I felt I definitely got what I paid for some people as has been mentioned on here before expect 5 star service for 2 star prices.

Well... stayed here a few times, the standard of the rooms is hit and miss; I was moved from the room i had booked and was checked into because it had not been cleaned, although i had to go through the inconvenience of going back to reception - they sorted out another room. wouldl stay again if prices remained cheap

We stayed here as a family. The building on the outside is not pleasing to the eye. The staff were nice but the restaurant was unorganised with no front of house allocating tables and it was a free for all especially at breakfast. The blonde receptionist was very friendly though. There were weighing scales in the bedroom which I found unnecessary and the shower didn't work. The towels smelt musty. The room was clean and bed comfy though.

One night in this hotel was enough for me. Like a lot of other reviewers, I stayed her via a National Holidays trip. The building itself is dirty both on the outside and inside. Our rooms however, were just ok. Clean to a certain degree and 'sleepable', but the whole ambience was that of cheap, tatty and couldn't be bothered.

I would like to say it's a shame because they could easily improve it, but the only thing that would improve this hotel is a bulldozer.

The food was the most tasteless I have ever had. Gordon Ramsay would have a field day in that kitchen. How you can make every item on the plate taste if nothing has to be a skill in itself.

I discovered that National Holidays actually own this hotel along with a few other 'select' ones throughout the country. Needless to say, it will be my last trip with them.

Totally disgusted that elderly people are taken advantage of on these trips by being put in to slums like this.

My sister and I took our 90 year old mum on this trip and she was really disappointed.

Shame on you National Holidays.

On the arrival to hotel, coach driver said don't worry not as bad as it looks. Obviously alarm bells rang it did look like a old prison outside, anyway room was okay clean enough far to warm and the windows did not open much. Food - the breakfast did not look appealing especially the bacon and did not taste great, evening meal was expectable .staff were overall quite miserable. all young and looked liked they would rather be somewhere else. value for money does not mean you should except anything. how the hotel chain can let the outside look so bad is beyond me, what the locals think well! only thing I can think of is it may well be closing soon and do not want to spend money. We had a lovely view from 7th floor of loads of rubbish piled up against a wall. I except the most important part of a hotel is the inside. but the outside is that bad seeing is believing. Just to add this was not the hotel of our choice. National holidays shame on you.

Room Tip: Avoid this hotel if possible, especially if a family nothing in the area. Very noisy near main road.

My wife and I spent three nights at the Coventry Hill on a National coach holiday. We were soon checked in on arrival and allocated a room on the third floor which was reached by a high speed lift. The room was quite spacious with clean and comfortable twin beds, plenty of drawer and wardrobe space.television and tea and coffee making facilities. The bathroom contained nice clean towels and constant hot water and heated towel rail.
Down to dinner at 7pm where we realized that there were several coach parties staying at the hotel. Some were already dining as per their designated meal times and so we all mingled among the various courses on offer, sometimes waiting for plates or for some food items to be replenished but we all muddled through and had quite sufficient to eat and coffee in the lounge afterwards
Free wi fi was available in the reception area and the usual bar with pleasant staff as in reception and the restaurant,
The hotel in general is kept quite clean considering the number of guests who pass through and the damaged fittings and torn wallpaper and stained carpets that we read about are merely caused by uncaring, inconsiderate guests. It must be quite difficult for the domestic and maintenance staff to keep up.Our room was cleaned and fresh towels supplied daily
If you wish to take the bus to the city centre or to Birmingham there is a regular service from Allesley village which is only a few minutes walk.
Some people will always complain about their accomodation.Sometimes maybe justified but I think that the Coventry Hill represents value for money and if you read the good and bad reviews then go along and decide for yourself.
