“Don't believe the terrible reviews”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2010

A group of us stayed here for three nights whilst working as "extras" in "Upstairs Downstairs" which we were filming in Leamington Spa. Admittedly we were leaving the hotel about 10 am and returning quite late in the evening, so we didn't eat there or sample the entertainment, but when it comes to value for money (£34 per room per night) it can't be faulted. After I had made the last-minute booking I read some reviews and my heart sank, but I really don't know what people expect for their money! As for some reviewers who stayed there on holiday (in Coventry?) well that may be a different story. All our party agreed that the rooms, bathrooms, bedding etc., were spotlessly clean although the place would benefit from redecoration throughout (It is a bit 1970's). The staff were very helpful, especially the bar staff and night porter who made sure we could get a drink upon our late return.

All in all we just wanted somewhere to stay to locally which was reasonably priced, clean and comfortable. This hotel fit the bill perfectly and if I was looking to stay in that area again (very handy for the NEC) I would definitely stay there again.

Thank you for your review. The entertainment is part of the Coach package, however, anyone staying in the hotel is welcome to join in Free of Charge. We often have families staying only one night who love to get involved with the quizes, bingo and sing a longs

We have been staying at the coventry hill hotel for 2 years running for a cat show we attend in December every year and we will be staying there again this year for 2 nights this time. we have always found the staff very friendly and it is so lovely to find a hotel where we can take the cats. they love to stay in the hotel and always have a wonderful time. my mum and i staqyed with my younger sister and we had a fabulous family room with a double bed and a set of bunkbeds, it makes a lovely change to just have the one room and not need to get 2 rooms for teh 3 of us. WE are looking forward to our stay again in December this year and i will eb booking it shortly. It is always very good value for money at the Coventry hIll Hotel. The rooms are very clean, lovely deep baths, lots of hot water and ghreat service. Thank you very much

We are currently staying in the Coventry Hill Hotel booked through APH. We were sent a booking email with the wrong postcode on and ended up in the wrong place driving around for half an hour trying to find it. When we got here to park our car there were no parking spaces as we expected to have one reserved as we have paid for it for 15 days. After 20 minutes someone drove out and we finally got a space. The receptionist was really nice and booked us in to room 619, upon entering the corridor we noticed one of the lifts were out of order, the carpets were dirty and upon entering the room the wallpaper was coming away from the walls. We also the lampshades had dirty water stains on and were covered in dust. Then we decided to have a shower and turned it on and it was scalding hot so I tried to turn the thermostat down but it was broken. Now I understand why the wallpaper is coming away as the steam fills the room as there is no extractor fan and the windows open 6 inches. I rang reception to inform them of the problem and there response was to come and have a look but there is no point as by this point it's midnight and I just want to go to bed. He says the hotel is fully booked and there are no spare rooms, maybe because quite a few people have asked to be moved due to maintenance issues. I understand it's a budget hotel but three stars it isn't more like one. I took this hotel as I thought it would make my travel to the airport easier with a nice relaxing shower, good night sleep and trip to the airport in the morning but I find myself awake, stressed and with a headache typing a complaint, not a good advert for a hotel!!! I hope people take notice that this is not a good idea as it always sounds good on the website but you always end up disapointed, chances of me ever using Britannia Hotels again, not very high!!!

We were booked into this hotel by my partner's brother for one night as we were attending their wedding anniversary. Having read some pretty critical reviews of the Coventry Hill Hotel online, I was prepared to walk out if I experienced similar things as people have written about.

Several comments referred to 'smoking' bedrooms which we definitely didn't want. As the hotel was full (8 coach parties), we were given the keys to 4 neighbouring rooms on the &th floor and told that we could choose the least smoky. Having sniffed all four, we chose one where you could hardly notice any tobacco aroma and it was fine - a spotless bathroom with a great shower and a comfy bed.

We went down for breakfast at about 9am and most of the coach trippers had eaten and we had the large dining room virtually to ourselves. The serve yourself full-English breakfast was plentifully fine and the staff friendly.

We found the hotel very good value (£53) for a double room B+B, so I'd say, give it a go. I can't understand the smoking policy, but suppose that many of the older coach party guests smoke. It would probably be too much to expect smokers on the upper floors to travel down seven storeys to indulge their habit outside and I guess they'd just puff away in their rooms without any consideration for future guests.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and for your kind comments. We do try to enforce the no smoking policy on our non smoking floors but is difficult as you say when some people do not adhere to the rules. I am glad you enjoyed your stay and I have passed your kind words on to the staff.

Many thanks

Stayed 4 nights with coach party. Rooms were clean and spacious (fourth floor). Plenty of hot water and clean towels and bedding. Nice toiletries. Staff were very pleasant and very helpful during our stay. The food was good with a very good variety with a carvery every night and at least three other options including vegetarian. Also good selection of veg and pasta. Only bad point was no variety of deserts which was chocolate fudge cake or gateaux or fruit salad and ice cream every night.Nice for one night but could have been varied a bit more.
All in all a very good value hotel.

we stayed for one night at this hotel with two weeks parking, booked through our travel agent first choice in newport. we like to park and stay it gets you in the holiday mood and as i always think well miss the flight if not on the doorstep its good for my nerves. well the hotel looks like a concret jungle, the car park is strewn with rubish and bricks, glass and we thought are we going to be safe here. We went into the hotel this looks like its in a time warp and has not been changed since it was built which was a long time ago the deco was worn, dark and drab although it was clean. we checked in at reception to be told there were no family rooms left (although we had booked one), so they booked us into two seperate twin rooms, ok it was only one night, we opened our doors which were next door to each other and were hit by the smell of smoke/fags omg. We do not smoke and my husband is astmatic, the boys said "we not sleeping in there" and we all agreed, the first room smelt like the smoking room with the smokers still in it, it was stained brown everywere it was disgusting is all we can say my husband opened the windows as wide as possible to let the smell out, in room two it was just as bad but the smokers must have left a bit earlier because it was slightly breathable yes that how bad it was so we opened the windows and decided to leave all the cases in this room in a vain hope everything didnt end up smelling of smoke. we went back to reception and were told there were no other rooms left but if we checked later when the evening shift came on if someone did not turn up they may be able to change us. ok so we went out to the motor museum in coventry which was free and really interesting the boys thought it was going to be boring but they really enjoyed themselves and we were in there for a couple of hours so this is well worth a visit, then we went to the tay barn for food fantastic place anything to delay going back to our rooms.
We returned to the hotel and asked at reception about changing our rooms and they said they didnt have any, i informed them that we had booked a family room anyway and had been give two twin, then the receptionest said oh well we have two non smoking doubles if you would like them well we did like them, so why didnt they give us these in the first place? these two rooms were spotless, and fresh although dated but we were all pleased with them.
We moved our cases and went downstairs for a drink. There were no seats available anywere as this hotel is used for all the bus trips, and there is no entertainment not that we wanted any just a quiet drink, there is one computer that costs £1 for ten mins but by time the boys logged on it was over, so we went to bed instead.
In the morning it was quicker to walk down the stairs than take the lift as they were so slow and everyone was leaving,(well it felt like that).
We checked out and waited with everyone in reception and got chatting to a few people (well they spoke to us) and asked what we thought of the food but because we hadnt eat here we couldnt say but they were complaining so we were glad we hadnt.

The taxi arrived and we left but the birmingham airport is 20 mins away, the taxi driver stood there while we loaded our cases which there wernt enough room for (we had 3 even though there was 4 of us) so we had them squashed in the cab with us as well, the transfers are included. the taxi driver told us to ring when we got back but not until we had collected our cases and to wait here were he had dropped us off to be picked up.

When we retuned you have to phone the taxi after you collect your cases so i did while my husband got them and we had to wait 20 mins while they drive from coventry, good job it wasnt raining then the taxi phoned me to tell us they were in a completly different place and we had to walk along the car park and outside the airport for them which took some finding, and the whole way back the taxi was on his phone chatting so we were relieved to get to the hotel and still find the car there with wheels. so no we wont be using this hotel or transfer taxi again.
