“Very good for the price”
Reviewed 24 February 2011

My Wife and I were on a National Holidays break to Stratford and the Cotswolds. This hotel was well placed for this. We found the Staff to be welcoming and polite. The food was more than acceptable as was cleanliness. Yes some of the bedroom furniture is rather dated but it does not claim to be the Savoy or the Ritz. We paid £44 each for travel to and from the Cotswolds, Dinner, bed and cooked breakfast. I consider this extremely good value. Some people want 5star luxury for 2 star prices!

From the drive up, this Hotel looks as welcoming as a derelict high-rise, and inside it's not much better. Think a cross between a homeless hostel and a run-down old folks home and you're half way there with the mental image... The lobby has that creepy soul-less feel ,
even getting in the rickety old lift is a gamble !!( although might be better to get stuck in there than get up to your room!)Not enough hot water even for washing our faces never mind getting a shower! Lumpy beds and freezing cold room- had to resort to using hiddeous old blanket. Apart from that, there were a couple of positives- Clean rooms and the staff were pleasant ( oh yes, and the fire alarms are in full working order as we discovered at midnight when it went off!! ) over all, a VERY low budget hotel .

Thank you for taking the time to place a review on trip advisor, as it is only through constructive comments such as yours that we can constantly monitor the standards of service we offer our guests.

I apologise for the difficulties you experienced whilst staying with us and I am sorry that the hotel did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

I will investigate the points raised in your review and speak to the relevant Department Managers to address the difficulties you experienced.

I am concerned that the problems experienced were not brought to our duty managers attention, as any problems would have been addressed if the concerns were reported and all necessary actions to rectify the situation would have been taken.

Once again thank you for taking the time to write this review and please accept my sincere apologies once again that it was necessary to do so.

Many thanks for sharing your feedback. The Coventry Hill Hotel is a 192 bed roomed hotel with and average occupancy of 72%. We are a value for money hotel and I do appreciate that sometimes there are conflicting expectations, and while we do sometimes fall short of expectations we do have a number of guests who are happy to stay with us on a regular basis.

Thank you again for your constructive criticism your comments will be taken on board

we booked in the hotel at 3.15pm and was looking forward to a cold drink and some food,a poster on the entrance stated food was available from 10am-5pm and then we was told the restaraunt and bar would open at 5.30pm none of this was true and when i asked at reception what food would be available i was told i wouldnt be able to be seated for food until at least 8pm which meant we would have been there nearly 5 hours without food as even the vending machine was empty so we eventually got in the car and went to the local harvester, now for the room well were do i start i was in room 512 which had a mouldy ceiling in the bathroom, the wallpaper was hanging off the walls,tv control was broke with silver tape holding it together, the bed sheets had holes and some sort of sweet wrapper melted and ironed on to it,everything i touched was dusty apart from the bath toilet and sink and the kettle was full of limescale so we couldnt even make ourselves a drink, while i understand this is a low budget hotel theres no excuse for the lack of services and cleanliness,i have taken photos also just to prove im not one of them moaning customers who wants something for nothing however i dont think it would do me or the hotel any good posting them but if management would like me to post them or contact me to see them i will be more than willing to do so

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. As we are a very popular coach hotel and the coach parties do book their dinner times early, it is sometimes only after 7.30 that we do have tables available, however, there is an extensive bar and room service menu.

I would very much appreciate it if you would contact me direct to discuss your room problems and I thank you for the opportunity you have afforded me to do so.

Kind regards

Decided to get away for my 50th birthday and booked a National coach holiday"mystery trip" Having no idea where we were going i was unable to read any of the reviews and am glad i couldnt as i would have given it a miss, however i was pleasantly surprised. We paid the grand total of £39 each and having travelled to Stratford and spending a great afternoon sightseeing and shopping ,we travelled to the hotel for a bed and breakfast stay.We werenot expecting much for the price and on arrival we were pretty worried ,the exterior was in desperate need of a lick of paint. In fact it looked dire. However we were booked in efficiently and directed to our room, which was very warm and cosy after a freezing day out. There was everything you needed,tea/coffee making facilities, clean and comfy bed and a brilliant hot shower and tv.So now we were expecting the food to be awful, again surprised,a three course meal that was hot and plentiful with a good choice,we opted for the beef carvery. We then found out we had a free bar for an hour included, where we were served quickly without queueing and to finish off next day a full cooked english breakfast ,again as much as you wanted and tea/coffee.How anyone can complain for the price is unbelieveable. If i had to give a negative the only one i can find is the fact that due to limited space in the dining room we were forced to share tables, there was no tables set up for couples.not ideal if you like to be private.Other than that an enjoyable stay and much better than we expected. If you expect 5 star you must pay 5 star prices.

We usually use Travelodges and Premier Inns - The Coventry Hill Hotel is an older hotel run on a budget hotel basis and is every bit as good as the competition. - Much cheaper than the rest when booking the weekend within fourteen days of the date of staying.

We booked directly with Bitannia Hotels over the internet - BEWARE... They charge an additional £2 as a booking fee which is not mentioned in their advertising - a bit of 'sharp practice' and a little off-putting.

The hotel is very easy to find as it dominates the skyline as you approach Coventry on the A45 - Lots of free parking. - We stayed on a room only basis. - We were offered dinner and breakfast on an 'extra' basis - so we could pick and choose without feeling the need to eat unwanted meals .- Steak and Chips were available in the bar for £4.50!
We stayed on the 6th floor - very quiet night and good views of Coventry.

The reception and room staff were polite and friendly. Our room was superficially clean, ( we needed to wipe down the bath and few surfaces in the bathroom - which we do in most places). It was light from the large windows (which could have benefitted from cleaning!) and well heated - we were able to turn the large radiator off and open the restricted windows for ventilation. The bed was clean and comfortable. - The bath in the bathroom was slightly bigger and deeper than average with there was plenty of hot water.

The 26" TV only had six channels - luckily enough they were able to show the tennis and the football as well as a couple of good documentaries! - We had our own clock/radio. It would be good if Freeview were available (like at the Premier inns).

A complimentary copy of the Independent newspaper was available each day in the reception and there was FREE WIFI in the lobby area - unfortunately not in the rooms.

Providing you come to this hotel expecting Budget accommodation with a 'large hotel feel', you won't be disappointed........ - If you want to be pampered, you should look elsewhere and be prepared to pay a whole lot more!!

Stayed with colleagues on a business trip for 3 nights.

The room was fine if a little dated. It was clean though which was more important than the decor. The bed was comfortable and I slept well.

Breakfast was not bad at all ( apart from the coffee! ) We ate in the hotel on one night and this was a carvery type meal. It was pleasant enough and comparible to a "Toby" type set up.

All in all it was good value for money and the staff were very good and helpful.

We had a laugh with the coach guests who were staying at this hotel and I think they made our stay more enjoyable and fun.

This hotel is part of the Britannia Group but does not seem as delapidated as some of the other hotels they operate.
