In over 20 years of hotel living this is by far the most disgusting hotel I have stayed in. Room was dirty, sink cracked, bath stained, curtains did not fit the width of the windows and let in light, window would not close and the room was freezing.

Drunks congregating outside set the tone for the rest of the stay. Food was poor. Steer clear of this hovel.

No parking and spend all night worrying if car was safe in an outside Car park some 300 yards away.

Room Tip: No matter where you go, you cannot get away from the fact that the hotel is run down

Tired, knackered and worn out. That was just me on leaving the hotel. With all the other reviews here detailing the problems with the hotel the list on the 1st November 2013 is just the same. Thank goodness we had only booked for one night. My partner and I agreed that if it had been for more than the single night or we had arrived earlier in the day we would have forgone the pre-paid money and found somewhere else. A hotel where the main entrance glass doors don't quite meet flush and the entrance carpet is threadbare sets the standard and was an early warning that the reviews on here weren't a lie or a misjudgement. Do yourself a favour and book elsewhere even if it means not being in the town centre or paying a little more money. Caveat emptor!!!

This is a very old property but located conveniently in the city center. The rooms are a bit run down. Breakfast wasn't so good either. Staff didn't seem very friendly. The only plus is that this is right opposite to the bus station and close to the train station. I wouldn't recommend this hotel.

Very old, tired and poorly maintained and the buffet evening meals very poor too. Allegedly going to be made into student accommodation for the Uni hence no money being spent.
Carpet worn through by bed, wallpaper coming off wall. Wouldn't return.

Rude staff at arrival. Trouble with our booking, even though the room was pre-paid. Not fresh at all, and very run down. Dirty carpets in the room and in the hallways. Poor breakfast... We changed hotel the next day, and won't recommend this hotel.

Our hearts sank when we pulled up outside the hotel, Stalinist Brutal is the only way to describe the architecture, however the inside it was very different. Before I go on I must state that we paid £90 each, via National Holidays for three nights bed, breakfast and evening meal plus transport and excursions every day, therefore I don't know how much the hotel charges. We were soon in the room and was again surprised to find the room very large, there was even a sofa bed in there so it might have been a family room. The room was very clean, although the decor was a little tired. The bathroom was okay with a very good shower over the bath, although it did have a shower curtain, have these people never seen Psycho? Unfortunately there was no towel rails so you had nowhere to leave towels to dry, consequently we had clean towels every day. Breakfasts were average, limited choice with the cereals, and don't go near the coffee unless you're a caffeine addict. Dinner was, initially, very good, buffet style. We had soup or salad to start, with three main options plus a vegetarian option plus veg for mains. Puddings looked good although I don't eat them, although there were no grumbles from my better half. Sadly on the last night, Saturday, it all began to unravel; The main, main, if you know what I mean, was roast turkey, this ran out very quickly and was replaced by roast beef, or shoe leather as it's known in the trade. The second choice was sausages, that weren't that good, but there was enough other stuff not to go hungry. The bar was a revelation, expecting the usual rip off hotel prices I was surprised to find beer, including bottles of Spitfire and glasses of wine at about £2:50. Good points? The staff were all very pleasant, although there are not enough of them, this may be the reason that the hotel is so cheap. It was very clean. The bar prices are good, and the location couldn't be better. There was some entertainment in the evenings. Bad points? The hotel is very warm, in our room the thermostatic rad valve head was missing, we did ask for one but it never arrived. This meant that we had to open the window to keep the room cool, this is obviously costing the hotel money. In our room the bed seems to have been on the other side of the room at one point. This led to the pisspotical situation where the bedside lights are opposite the bed, with none next to the bed, which means, as Peter Kay would say. "You have to keep the big lamp on"! All in all a good trip and certainly value for money!
