“First visit and not the last!”
Reviewed 29 November 2013

Having decided that we would like to go somewhere local in Coventry, where we had not been before, we chose Da Vinci's for lunch, as a celebration for our sons graduation. We were not disappointed as the whole experience was most pleasant with excellent service a nice atmosphere and a good choice of well cooked food. We look forward to returning for an evening meal there in the not to distant future.

“Good food. Bit noisy though.”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

There is no doubt you will get a good meal at this restaurant. Whilst I have commented about the unsuitability for taking your new date to one or two restaurants that I have reviewed, this is very much the place for a romantic dinner. The only thing is that the tables are close packed and they try to squeeze in one cover after another so there is a bit of ambient din in the place. The green flowery type face on the menu is a bit of a challenge on the eyes and the specials are verbally conveyed to you so there is a risk that the price only hits you when the bill turns up. The wine list is good but I felt the mark up was significant so the cheapest good bottle was around £25.00 but you could easily pay double that. Thankfully it was only the sparklers that went to three digits. But you don't go out to eat to watch your pocket so this is a place to have a good night out and rely on your flexible friend to help you out. If you don't understand the last statement just put "flexible friend" in Google.

“Quality from start to finish”
Reviewed 28 November 2013

I was part of a group of twelve for this meal and I was wondering if this would put pressure on what had been recommended as a really good eatery. My concerns were allayed from outside with a big friendly welcome, jovial and chatty service, and real attention to detail throughout. Wine was well recommended and classily served, and as for the food - it was a rare treat. My scallops starter was made delicious by a subtle sauce, and my main was a rare tastebud fiesta. I had the beef steak topped with goat's cheese and it was outstanding. Done med-rare as all steaks should be, it was tender and complemented by the melting bitterness of the cheese. The tiramisu came recommended and did not let me down. What a great evening the food and service - just wow!

“solid all rounder”
Reviewed 21 November 2013

The hallmark of a good italian restaurant, in my opinion, is a menu that isn't based on bolognese, bruscetta and pizza but is based on well prepared meat and fish (with some pasta) and vegetables. This place definitely offered that, alongside great friendly, polite and prompt service. The price is a touch abover average, but the food quality is worth the premium.

We were welcomed with bread and olives. It was a pity the butter accompanying this was hard and refrigerated, but small sins in the grand scheme. I had calamari to start, my friend had scollops. Both were nicely sized (not pathetic, but not overpowering) and tasted fresh and simple, beautiful.

My friend had a fish pasta dish for main, which looked good.i had a cheese ravioli, which was great. Fresh, simple food. A nice, small but rich portion size. It was a pity the sauce was a little over salted.

We didn't have dessert, they were largely creamy italian dishes, which don't do much for me. The coffee was very good though, and came with a small bowl full of amaretti. Although generous, these were a little stale. Small sins though. Overall the food was asolid performance.

The environment is clean, open and well maintained, but appears incredibly dated. Its actually incongruous with the overall quality of the place, don't let it put you off! The little veneer trolleys are a odd choice to keep, but i accept it as an idiosyncracy of this place.

The other downside, is that there could be a little more for vegetarians on the menu, but there are options i hasten to add.

In summary, i would both reccomend and readily return.

“Birthday treat”
Reviewed 15 November 2013

From being welcomed back like old friends to the owner braving the rain himself to call us a cab, my birthday meal at Da Vincis was a real treat. The food and wine is all delicous, beautifully prepared and presented, the quality of meat and fish exceptional. it's not the cheapest but you definitley feel it's valuse for money. A cut above the run of the mill, chains and coffee shops, you can see why antonio is celebrating his 25th year in business
