Owner description: If you're looking for a fantastic FREE day out for all the family, you can't beat Coventry Transport Museum. In the heart of Coventry city centre, this huge Museum is home to the world's largest collection of British road transport, and a visit whisks you away into a world of stories of real people, real passions and real hope. You'll discover the stories behind the people who made Coventry the centre of the world's motor and cycle industries, and get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that defined some of history's most important moments. The Museum is laid out as a journey through time - you'll wander 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, then explore the first car factories and gasp as you witness their wartime destruction in the Blitz Experience. The journey continues through the Boomtown, Spirit of Speed and Ghost Town galleries to bring you right up to the present day.A visit to the Museum brings you face to face with Royal cars, military vehicles, and cars that played vital parts in their drivers' life stories - none more so than the current Land Speed Record holding vehicle, ThrustSSC, which lives at the Museum. Not only can you marvel at this spectacular piece of British engineering, you can experience for yourself what it's like to travel through the sound barrier at over 760mph in the ThrustSSC Simulator. ***Please Note*** Coventry Transport Museum is undergoing a major redevelopment programme during 2014 and the early part of 2015. The Museum remains open throughout this work but you are advised to check the Museum's website to see how your visit may be affected.***

“Excellent Modern Museum”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

Full of various transportation vehicles most of which have a long standing association with the City ... particulary Jaguar. Free entry, spacious and modern with easy public access and located only a short distance from the City Centre. What a pleasant way to spend the afternoon (or whole day if you have the time!) wandering amongst the historic exhibits and taking in the atmosphere of a past age whilst learning of the heritage left behind. “I Can't believe it's free!”
Reviewed 7 August 2014

We had a wonderful day out at the Coventry transport museum yesterday with our 5 year old daughter, I still can't believe that it's free entry. As it is the school holidays there were some craft activities going on upstairs and she was more than happy to sit and make a matchbox train whilst my husband got his time alone looking at the cars! The activity was only £1.50 which is great value for money. We also purchased the kids trail which was excellent as it kept her engaged the whole way around the museum and she was delighted to receive her sticker at the end. You could easily spend hours here and I thought that the layout was very easy to navigate and well signposted, the optional museum guide was a bargain at £2.50 and gave a lot more information on the exhibits and is a really nice glossy memento of our visit. Great for families.

“Great museum”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

Had a good time at the transport museum, although it will be better when all the building works have been completed as at times it was a bit noisy. Lots of different types of vehicle to look at. Considering it is free entry, this is a fantastic museum, which will be even better when the building works have been completed.
