Relaxing and quiet, great for a day out with kids or partner, whether for playing around or a picnic.

Lots of information and ideas on organic gardens. Lots of the tips and hints were easily transferable to my own garden, and there are some excellent easy and economical things to try out.
It did feel a little 'natural' as other per other posts, but as this was a first visit we had nothing to compare it with. Shame there was not opportunity to buy some plants - we were particularly taken with the amazing thistles - it would have been marvellous to bring some seeds home.

Thanks for your review, it's great to hear you've taken lots of tips away to use in your own garden. If you'd like to buy some seeds, we do have a wide range available for sale in our Reception area, which is open from Monday to Saturday. We hope to see you again soon.

Used to be a regular visitor to Ryton but it now seems to be suffering from a serious lack of funding. Despite the claim about allowing the grounds to become more natural (marketing hype for lack of staff) the whole site looks to be on a downhill slide. There was an air of neglect with many areas now closed to visitors and most of those that were open overgrown.

The onsite cafe was fine if you want veggie or vegan offerings, personally I don't like to be dictated to and would appreciate a more balanced choice (there are plenty of organic butchers around). It might work closer to a more 'hip' customer base but I think it could be a challenge situated between Rugby and Coventry. The lack of choice and captive audience may be it's saving grace.

Visited the gardens last Sunday, only to find the gardens were open and free,(bonus), but the visitor center was closed and no staff around to ask the usual normal questions that came to mind as one walked around. There is a nice vegetarian/vegan cafe onsite, which is nothing to do with the gardens,so I felt sorry for the excellent staff there having to field answers as to why the visitor center was closed on Sundays and no staff around. The gardens themselves ,whilst I accept were organic and natural, looked a s they could do with some TLC. In one of the set gardens there was a pond which had the signs "bees like water" , but virtually no water in the pond and most of the ponds in the gardens were so overgrown with algae and weed I'm surprised anything could live in them, let alone bees visiting.
I'm surprised in today's climate when families go out on Sundays,to visit places, and garden centers are towards the top of the list of places most visited , that this one was open yes,but the shop and center was shut,so part of the enjoyment was taken away, and I would have thought it would be financially viable as most would buy from the shop etc.
Would not recommend visiting there on Sundays.

Well, it was a good place before it closed! We used to go quite frequently, doing some shopping in their very good large shopping area before either eating in the restaurant of the coffee shop. Both were excellent and a great loss.

Hi Annie - Just to let you know, unfortunately previous retail offerings here at Ryton have not been able to break even. So, although we no longer have the large retail store, we do offer a limited range of organic seeds, publications, greetings cards and plants in season, grown on this site, at the garden entrance. We also have a new cafe/restaurant - Fresh Rootz - winners of the BBC Street Food Awards 2013 offering delicious freshly cooked vegetarian and vegan food. This has been well received by visitors to Ryton since it opened in the Spring and offers beautiful views into the gardens. We hope to see you back here again soon.
