“Best Western with inconsistent standards”
Reviewed 12 August 2014 via mobile

I had to check online to see what "Plus" actually meant and I can only conclude it is the fact there is a golf course.

The Best Western chain is a franchise set up and, to me, seems to have the most inconsistent standards.

On the plus side the bed was extremely comfortable, the room was quiet and free wifi worked well. On the less positive side the room was tired and the hotel generally dated. And on the real negative side the guy that served me in the cellar bar was totally miserable and barely found the need to grunt. An even bigger impact than a dated hotel.

Food was OK but nothing more than that. Nice view over the golf course at breakfast.

Also be aware that (unless I missed something or sat nav tricked me) you have to drive 3-4 miles away from Coventry and come back on yourself if you are planning to head to Coventry when leaving the hotel.

A chain I rarely use but one I know needs a good bit of research before booking because of its inconsistent standards.

Stayed at this hotel 3 times now for dog grooming competitions and for crufts, its located only 10-15 min away from the kennel club building at stoneleigh and the NEC- its nice to feel welcome while staying with my dogs - the staff are very welcoming and accomodating.
The rooms are a little dated but very clean, bath was on the small side and shower not too powerful but did the job!
Didnt get a chance to use the spa but it looked lovely.
We had a small issue with noisey guests above us at the weekend but a quick call to reception and this was resolved.

Room Tip: If staying with dogs request a room downstairs - they have patio doors which open up onto the golfco...

We recently got married at the Windmill Hotel and I cannot believe how brilliant the day ran, it exceeded our expectations. Tim Brown co-ordinated our big day and had everything sorted for us right from the 3 weeks prior when we met him, on the day it was raining a little and Tim was standing outside the chapel waiting for us with a big umbrella! My husband has told me that Tim was supportive the morning of the wedding and helped take the stress off, we paid corkage so that we could take our own alcohol and food which the Windmill staff served for us..they all were just fantastic. Even the next day when we needed to collect bits they had it all ready for us. We even got the Bridal suite for our 2nd night. Would recommend the hotel to everyone.

From a very happy married couple.

Room Tip: The bridal suite looks over the golf course, fantastic!

The hotel wanted our group to tell them in advance what we wanted for dinner so we had to stay on the bus and fill out menus. One of our group got his dessert 30 minutes late. In addition, they only had one porter on duty so our group had to porter our own bags. The bed we slept in was uncomfortable and the door of the bathroom creaked. However they had a lovely flower garden and lots of people appeared to be having fun on the golf course. Internet worked in the main building but slower than molasses in our room.

Room Tip: Ask for a recently renovated room. Probably best for a golf vacation.

Me and my now wife chose the windmill village for our wedding. The service we received was absolutely first class, on the Day Todd was exceptional, helping us through our day and guiding us where we needed to be without ever intruding. The wedding went without a hitch and once we were there we didn't have any worries. There were plenty of nice photo spots both inside and outside the hotel and the way the hotel dealt with suppliers was great too and both Tim and Ellen were great too helping make the day special for everyone with many guests saying how smooth everything ran. The food was very good on the day and the evening buffet was great too.
We had room 101 which was a suite with 4 poster bed and seating area outside and was clean and very nice too. The pool facilities and gym were good too. Free wifi available in the hotel too.

A big thank you to the hotel and all it's staff.

Booked 3 rooms online for an event being held at the hotel. Called on the day of arrival to say we would not be arriving until 8pm. Arrived after a long journey to be told the hotel were overbooked and they only had 2 rooms and would we mind sharing for the first night! Eventually they sent us to a sister hotel up the road for one night and then we had to return to this hotel for the second night. In hindsight, we would have been better off staying at the other hotel!

When we arrived the second day, despite being promised otherwise, our rooms were not ready! When we eventually checked in, the room wasn't particularly clean, with hair straightener burns in the carpets and bright red long hair extensions on the bathroom floor. The room was boiling hot and the windows only opened 1 inch. We requested a fan, but when it arrived it was the size of your hand and totally useless. Barely slept and woke with a splitting headache. Breakfast was disorganised and the buffet hadn't been replenished, lots of people stood around waiting for tables, coffee, food!

When we came to check out they had charged us £70 for the first night at their sister hotel, even though the rate on the board at the other place was £50. After pointing this out, there were some red faces and they did reduce the rate by £20. They also tried to charge us for a bottle of champagne that we had ordered in advance for our first nights stay, but they had only put in the room on the morning of checkout while we were at breakfast!!!

The receptionists on both days were rude and disinterested.

The only positive was the spectacular views of the golf course, but from a hot dirty room, (if they have one available for you), is not worth it!

Room Tip: Stay 10 minutes down the road at the Best Western Manor hotel, it's cheaper and 100x nicer.
