“very pleasant staff and reasonable”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

We have been to this Italian restaurant a couple of times both for lunchtime meals and evenings. The food is very good and reasonable with a selection of specials. One of the major pluses is the friendly staff and of course the food. Once you have eaten Arundel is a great place to wander round and there is reasonable parking on street and at the outdoor lido just 10 minutes walk away.

“Our favorite Italian”
Reviewed 26 April 2014

Fourth time we have visited La Campania even tho it means a round trip for us of 225 miles. The food is excellent, the Service is first rate. We visited Thursday evening which was steak night.
Three courses plus garlic bread and wine for £17.95 is unbeatable. my wife could not eat desert.
I had Calamarie for starter and Scallops for main. Perfect, can't wait for our next trip to Sussex.

“Beautiful Chateaubriand”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

I have eaten here several times in the past when on business in Arundel (always returning thanks to the relaxed atmosphere, brilliantly friendly staff and excellent food), and the food always impresses and delights clients and co-workers.

I went for the chateaubriand, split with a co-worker. It was quite honestly one of the best, if not the best, steak I've ever eaten, cooked medium-rare to perfection and served with a delicious sauce and side of handmade potato chips. I usually end up opting for steak when dining out, and I can honestly say this was better than any similar meal I've had in the past (including from some world-renowned London restaurants). The brilliant staff recommended a fantastic wine that paired with the steak beautifully and the wonderful service and general atmosphere of the restaurant made for a highly enjoyable evening.

I would highly recommend the restaurant, and especially the chateaubriand and it would provide the perfect end to any trip to Arundel!

“The desperate tourists”
Reviewed 19 April 2014

Arundel is a lovely town in Sussex, with far too much to see and do in a one day whistle stop tour. End result, two fairly starved tourists staggered in to La Campania at 6 in the evening with a ferry to catch 30 miles away from Portsmouth later that night at 9.
"Table for two?"
"Have you booked?"
(Faces drop) "No."
"Hold on." (Consults list)
"We won't be long, honestly, but we need to eat!"
"Table 9 is booked, but not for an hour or so. Follow me."

What followed was fabulous. Happy and attentive service in a restaurant with a lovely ambience and food that appeared rapidly and was of the highest quality. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who cheerfully provided all their guests with the best possible service as we watched them bustle quietly around.

Their goats cheese salad was excellent, far from the usual British offering of a sliced onion on a plate filled with lettuce with a lump of something faintly rubbery. This was a properly prepared using a comprehensive variety of ingredients and dressing. The sea food risotto was then superb. They evidently have chefs in La Campania who understand how to blend tastes extremely well. The wine was also very good.

End result, by 7:00 we were on our way to the ferry, well fed, delighted - and determined to recommend this little gem with its hard working and delightful staff to all who visit Arundel.

But be like we will be on our next visit - book first!

“Disappointing, poor value”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

This is a fairly expensive restaurant so we were expecting more than we got. Started with the shared antipasta which was OK apart from the lack of grilled or marinated peppers which I'm pretty sure were supposed to be on the plate. Next up we both had the rump steak which was a bit on the chewy side, accompanied by some supposedly 'new' potatoes with rosemary which were really inedibly sweet. Both the starter and main course came with a small mixed salad which was OK but it seemed they were a bit short of ideas. We had the cheese next - brie, cheddar and very tasty gorgonzola. It was supposed to come with a glass of port which did not arrive and when I enquired I was told they had run out. Rather odd but they did then offer an alternative. We washed it down with the house Sangiovese which was fine. Overall, not the worst meal we have ever had but disappointing in comparison with the £63 it cost.
