“Beautiful surroundings and outstanding stay”
Reviewed 14 April 2014

My partner and I stayed here for a night on a Thursday on a return trip from South Wales.

On arrival we were greeted with a smile and offered a fresh pot of tea and some flapjacks and cake - what a great way for a stay to begin. Our host, Lizzie, ran through everything and told us everything we needed to know before leaving us to our own devices.

We took a stroll into town from here which takes about 25 minutes along the river bank and got a taxi back in the evening at cost of just over £5.

We stayed in the castle view room and so pleased we paid a little extra as the views are stunning and the room is finished to a high standard. The bed is massive and extremely comfortable.

The following morning we enjoyed a pre-orderd breakfast by a log burning fire, that was cooked to perfection with fresh eggs from the next door neighbour. Lovely.

All in, we had a great time, shame we weren't staying for longer as we were made to feel very welcome. Thank you ;-)

Room Tip: The castle room is definitely worth paying a little more for, you won't be sorry you did

Note to cyclists: The secure (indoor) bike storage is excellent; see if you can get Lizzie or Paul to show you the secret trick!

Lizzie and Paul were lovely hosts, making sure that all our needs were met. We rang to let them know we would be arriving pretty late and Lizzie asked if we'd like her to book a table at a restaurant for us. When we arrived we were shown to our room and given the breakfast menu. We explained that we were heading out to a cycling event very early, so we would probably be skipping breakfast, however, Lizzie generously offered to skip some sleep so that we didn't have to set out hungry! The breakfast was tasty and served in a room with a spectacular view all the way to the castle and beyond. We could have happily stayed all day and watched the birds flitting around the garden but alas there was much to do.

With regard to the room (Field View), it was of a good size, and very clean with a large and comfortable bed. The shower was quite powerful and plenty hot enough (I do hate weak / cold showers). We were also pleased to see that proper milk was available to us; which made for a refreshing change from the usual pots of UHT.

The only minor negative I can think of was that were both disturbed by the sound of a boiler (we assume) in the early morning. I can't really judge how that would affect most people though as we're both light sleepers and, sadly, we had both forgotten to use any earplugs on the first night. No issue on the second night though.

As alluded to in the title, we've booked to go back in December, so it should be pretty clear that we have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending Nurses Cottage.

P.S. the croissants were delicious as was the raspberry and apple compote!

Nurses Cottage is an absolute gem in the B&B business, it's really one of the best out there! Let's start with........ the warm welcome from Lizzie & Paul, including a nice pot of tea, homemade lemon cake, Prosecco (it was Valentine's day) and a nice warm fire. Exactly what we needed on a wet, windy February night. Let's continue with the location - perfectly situated between Arundel town (an easy 25 minutes walk along the river) and the walking tracks leading through the South Downs. Finally, the room - it was spotlessly clean, the most comfortable bed and duvets imaginable, light and airy (and we didn't have the famous Castle room) and generally a home away from home. Oh, we forgot the amazing breakfast - free-range bacon, sausages, eggs, fresh juice, bread, salmon on Sundays... do we need to say more?
Lizzie and Paul have created something really special and are the perfect hosts. Stay there, we will definitely be back!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Field view room and would recommend it. The view over the castle from the breakfast...

We had a wonderful stay one blustery weekend in February. Lizzie was a charming hostess, attentive and professional. The B&B was spotless, the "Castle View" room has a huge comfy bed and stunning view and the added bonus of tea & flapjacks in front of the log burner in a private sitting room for guests was a delight. Supper at the nearby pub The George was delicious and breakfast at Nurses Cottage caters for all tastes. I highly recommend you treat yourself to this comfortable and high quality establishment.

Stunning views from the 'Castle View' bedroom. Very clean and contemporary with lovely touches throughout the bedroom and bathroom. Vey comfortable and cosy bed. Got a very peaceful nights sleep.
Lizzie made us feel extremely welcome and offered local knowledge, including a wonderful local restaurant.
Breakfast was fresh and plentiful.
Lizzie and Paul have set the B & B bar very high - this is definitely the best B & B I've ever stayed at and all for a very reasonable rate per night.
Highly recommended if you want a walking holiday around Arundel and the Sussex Downs, perfectly located.

What a lovely B&B!!! We wish we had arranged a longer stay and will definitely return for that in the future. Lizzie and Paul have somehow managed to achieve a cosy, homely feel in the large spacious rooms which were stunningly decorated and spotlessly clean. Both our bedroom and the dining area had beautiful views. The en-suite was fresh and new and also spotlessly clean. Lizzie and Paul were extremely friendly and welcoming and really went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. They provided a wide choice for breakfast which was delicious and hearty portions and they recommended restaurants in the town for us to eat in the evening (which were also very good).

Reviewed 25 November 2013

We ( me and my husband ) stayed at Nurses Cottage this November. We loved this place for the following reasons :
1. Extremely clean room, bathroom and the whole place
2. The room was nice with very comfortable bed and view
3. The bathroom was really very very clean and comfortable. Clean and good bathroom really matters to me and so when I'm saying the bathroom was nice, it really was
4. Ms.Lizzy is a beautiful and kind lady with very good taste and is very much detail-oriented. She is always there for any help. We got lost on the way to Nurses Cottage in the evening, and she took the trouble to pick us up from where we were
5. The environment was beautiful
6. The food was very good
7. They have a nice sitting room with fireplace, books and dvds
So, overall a five star from me and many thanks for making our stay so nice and comfortable!
