“Really good!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

My fiancée had always talked about going to the black rabbit but we never actually got to go there until recently . We went on a Sunday which because of the weather was busy. We managed to park the car ( it's a good job it's a Mini Cooper as the parking was a bit tight.) we managed to find a table outside but without an umbrella it was quite hot in the sun. That was soon solved as other people were leaving so we moved to another table with an umbrella . We ordered our food for which I ordered steak and my other half also had steak with chicken wings as a starter. The food was well presented and very nice. Drinks are about the normal price for a pub of this kind so don't be surprised if two or three drinks don't come to nearly ten pounds .
We enjoyed our lunch there and will come back when we can. The setting by the river is very nice, but I can imagine is gets packed on summer days so get there early.

“Fabulous lunches for adults. Poor for children”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2014 via mobile

I love the Black Rabbit; great setting, good views. We went on a quiet Sunday for lunch- 2 adult couples and a young child.
Roast dinners and pie were perfect, but the child's menu didn't sound great and the food looked (and tasted) awful. He had burger and fries. Dried bun, dried burger no salad or anything colorful to tempt.
Come on Black Rabbit- you can do better for the children of this world.

“Perfect place for a pint!”

After a day in Arundel, this was the perfect place to come for a pint! Didn't try the food but sat outside on the loungers watching the world go by with a drink, lovely!

“Nothing to write home about”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

There is one thing to commend this pub/restaurant ... its location and outdoor seating alongside the River Arun.
It's expensive: 1 pint of lager and a glass of wine cost over £10.00.
Service? Well: find your own numbered table; collect a menu yourself; remember your table number and order at the bar. "Oh, and help yourself to cutlery and condiments from a table near the door."
Food: I ordered a steak and ale pie, (reputedly award-winning,) The presentation was shoddy, with the pie untidily plonked on top of mash. It arrived with tired looking carrots and over-cooked cabbage that looked like it had been scraped from the bottom of a dishwasher. Having said that, the pie was very tasty and generously filled. The gravy was good too. I left the veg.
My wife was unimpressed by the gammon steak. It looked like two slightly thick slices of greasy bacon. I declined to taste it.
Value? Well, I suppose the large portions justified the price, but otherwise ...

“Steak and Ale Pie - really very ordinary. Bought better from Waitrose!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

First visit to Arundel. Shame that we didn't know our way around- the Chinese looked good, but we felt we wanted some local fish etc. On the way down through Sussex we'd seen some lovely looking pubs- didn't see any in Arundel town centre, so went for the Black Rabbit, even though to be honest a 3.5 rating on Trip Adviser is not good enough.
Service was very poor. Even though plenty of free tables, waitress huffed and puffed as if us being there was an issue!
We ordered drinks before ordering food, which she promptly forgot, and 15 minutes later, another head? Waitress told another girl she needed to take our drinks order! When it came, the white wine was warm.
The food was incredibly ordinary. Surprisingly for a town near the coast only two fish choices for starters and two for mains. Whitebait, prawn cocktail (which sounded more interesting on the menu than it's reality) and smoked haddock, and beer battered fish. Totally uninspiring! So had the Steak and Ale pie. The best bit was the cabbage on the side! For all of their "this is amazing" and "we rejected other recipies", it was incredibly disappointing. The meat was not tender, a little stringy and sparse. Gravy was nothing, pastry too. Seemed shop bought, ordinary and cheap.
Will not be going back. Also the expresso was so incredibly strong and bitter, it almost came out of my nose! Bizarre that they can get it so wrong. Some real honest self assessment needs to happen. What a shame as yes, they are in an incredible position. The trouble is, it's substance at the end of the day!
