We had booked dinner at The Ship as a special treat, but after a problem with our hotel, transferred our whole weekend away there instead. So glad we did.

Like sliding into a silk slip, everything about The Ship oozes calm, peace and luxury. From the mammoth 4 person bed, to the sensuous scented toiletries and indulgent chocolate biscuits, it felt like a pampering weekend.

Nothing is too much trouble for the staff, from a last minute booking (booked at 10, arrived at 11!), to providing bicycle storage with a moment's warning, everything was dealt with quickly, efficiently, and with real warmth.

The breakfast was excellent, with very good bacon and sausages, although egg poaching was variable. We especially liked the prosecco provided, as an extra touch. Our evening meal in the hotel restaurant was an experience to remember, with fantastic steak, a fabulous duck salad and outstanding wines. Desserts were beautifully presented, and richly flavoured.

The downsides? Despite two weeks notice in our dinner booking, there was a very limited range of options for my coeliac partner, it was steak or salad, but it was a very very good steak! Our room was slightly disturbed by noise from the hotel kitchen fans, this ceased at around midnight. The shower was a bit of a dribble, which was a shame. Robes in the room would have been a nice touch.

However, these small things can't dent our enthusiasm for a fantastic stay, we would heartily recommend The Ship Hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: Room 15 and others at the rear of the hotel may have noise from kitchen fans. In true Georgian styl...

Dear Fneepette

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review on this site and awarding us five out of five. Thank you also for your very eloquent comments on our lovely hotel and so glad we could help with your hotel change.
I was, however, disappointed to read of your comments with regard to options for your coeliac partner as we have a specifically marked menu for guests showing detail on appropriate dishes for guests who are coeliac or prefer gluten free dishes. Regrettably it would seem this was not shown to you on this occasion. However thank you for commenting on how delicious your meals were.
Our kitchen fans are scheduled to be turned off by 1015 but my head chef has reported to me that the nightly deep clean was a little later on the night of your visit for which we apologise.

Thank you for your recommendations and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind regards

Came here for an overnight - excellent city centre location with parking. Beds are nice and comfortable, staff amazingly friendly and the place was nice and clean. Had an evening meal at their spectacular restaurant - if you are staying, I'd definitely recommend having your dinner in there. I look forward to returning

We arrived at The Ship on Friday and were greeted by a friendly and welcoming receptionist who booked us in with the minimum of fuss and even issued me with a replacement parking permit as I had been unable to print mine out at home. Reception was once again very helpful later, when we wanted some details of local walks. The hotel is beautifully decorated, retaining many of the original features and mixing those with bold colours giving a contemporary feel.

There were plenty of options on offer at breakfast time along with a nice selection of cooked options (the cheese omelette was the best my Wife has ever tasted) and again friendly and attentive staff were on hand to take our cooked breakfast order.

Housekeeping was all carried out efficiently and the room was spotless and again beautifully presented.

A great place to stay and we will be going back again.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front on the second floor and there was no noise from the street

The room and the service by Natalie Tate was excellent. She made herself available when we need some advice and help and ensured that the party went off without a hitch. The food was excellent and we had more than enough vegetarian options for my wife and daughter. The room was decorated very elegantly and having the option for a dance floor was good. The downsides were not having the restrooms closest to the party room available to us; we were not aware that they were being refurbished and it meant gentlemen had to trudge through the hotel and upstairs to use others. The room was available until 11:30pm but drinks were served only until 11:00pm which is probably a local by-law but we were unaware of this -- as where our guests. One small speaker in one room meant the music was incidental to the event. It is not a music dance party venue which is okay for some.

Dear SydneyLFC

Thank you for writing your review on this site and awarding us four out of five. Thank you for also being so kind in regard to our food in particular our vegetarian options and the service that Natalie provided. I apologise for the refurbishment of the function room toilets not being completed but unfortunately we hit a complication, now resolved, during their refurbishment that caused a slight delay.
You are absolutely correct we are only licensed to serve alcohol to non-residents until 11pm, as we are so central in the city. We often have DJ’s and bands in the Guildhall suite to suit each guest’s individual requirements.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed your party and we look forward to seeing you again at The Ship Hotel.

Lovely ambiance in bar area and an absolutely gorgeous modern but "warm" dining/breakfast room, we did not have an evening meal in at the hotel but the menu looked delicious. The breakfast was a limited buffet of meats, pastries, cereals, fruit etc. complimented by a hot menu. The hot breakfast was much better than most. The rooms were nicely done shabby chic style with a comfortable bed. There was no luggage rack so the suitcases had to sit on the floor which was inconvenient. I would also suggest that if you are light sleeper ask for a room with no one in a room above you as the ceiling/floor was a bit noisy. The hotel is situated right on one of the main shopping streets and an easy walk to the cathedral. I would stay here again.

We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay at The Ship. Great location, comfortable room with a good bed, nice quality fittings and a good bathroom...what's not to like? We were attending the Goodwood members meeting so after a full day we were looking forward to dinner in Murrays and were not disappointed. Very young staff but very capable and the young manageress was back again in the morning doing breakfast! She stayed smiling and was very attentive and deserves a pat on the back from management as she is a real asset and left us with a very positive view of our stay. We only live 1 hour away but will stay again at the Revival meeting in September if they have space!

Room Tip: We stayed in 32 on the top floor which has the eaves, I'm 6ft so had to watch myself! The lift...
