“Lodge a booking now!”

After some issues with contacting Debbie because of issues with holidaylettings.co.uk website, we booked the Lodge quickly and easily and received directions and the door code for the lodge before our arrival.

Debbie came to welcome us and we felt that nothing would be too much of a problem if we needed to ask for something.

The lodge is set back from the road (not a main road) and consists of two rooms- a spacious bedroom with a very comfortable bed including lovely linen and an en suite bathroom including a shower; and a large lounge kitchen/ dining area.

The quality of the construction of the building is great- the owners have obviously taken time and money to equip the lodge with lovely furniture and fixtures and fittings. Having said that, I was a little concerned after booking by reading a previous review regarding the lack of an oven. In the event this was not a problem and we managed to cook a full english breakfast using the oven and not using the available frying pan!. The Lodge has an in built solid plate electric hob with 4 hobs and a large convection microwave/oven, with a slow cooker also provided as well as a frying pan, saucepans and various utensils.

The lodge is ideally situated and is close to Chichester- a 5 minute drive and has many pubs near by serving quality food and drink.

As the end of our stay approached, we became sad to leave such a lovely venue and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the lodge as a place to stay, nor would I hesitate to return there again if visiting the beautiful county of Sussex

“Excellent stay- specification & location first class”
Reviewed 28 December 2012 for a stay in December 2012

We booked the lodge to escape a hectic year and have a week of isolated retreat.

Debbie, who dealt professionally and courteously with everything from tentative enquiry to a warm welcome, really could not have done more for us. The lodge is located near Goodwood races, Chichester, and the beautiful south coast. Our first impression of the lodge was it being clean and comfortable. Modern fitted kitchen and en-suite bathroom mean whether you plan to use it as a base for daily exploration, or (like us) a winter bolt-hole, Oak Lodge has it all.

The visitor book tells the story of dozens of delighted (and many repeat, which tells you a great deal) visitors, who also offer recommendations for food, drink and tours nearby.

Nice touches; a basket of local produce on our arrival, fresh milk/tea/coffee etc, and hosts close enough to make you feel right at home , but distant enough as to not intrude. Also, Debbie arranged in advance to sort a short-term membership at a local health club; she really did aim to meet every need and expectation, which was greatly appreciated.

Only one minor point (not criticism, but easy to work around when you book), at the time of our stay, the kitchen has no grill or conventional oven, so plan your self-catering around microwave/convection/slow-cooker & hob (or eat out! Spoiled for choice). But that one single point is outweighed by a tremendous rental.

I would not hesitate to recommend this beautiful lodge. We would most definitely book again should we visit the area again.

“A valuable asset to know about if staying near Goodwood.”
Reviewed 11 September 2012 for a stay in September 2012

Oak Lodge is an excellent wooden built Chalet in the grounds of the owners house. They also take in bed and breakfast guests so if your party is larger than the two the lodge comfortably holds it would be worth checking if you could combine both facilities.

It is worth asking for detailed directions on how to find the property as Google Earth places it in a field half a mile south of where it actually is.

Parking is via an offshoot of the owners driveway and will involve a 15 yard walk and the carriage of bags to the accomodation. The area has a neighborhood watch and we were happy to leave our classic car in the parking bay.

Pets are welcome and we arrived with two Labs along with a smaller dog. One of our Labs is now getting infirm so she found the tiled flooring hard to cope with. We therefore used blankets and rugs as much as possible to provide traction for her to move around so It would be worth bearing this in mind if your pet is elderly. Otherwise the property is well suited for animals.

If any comments could be made it would only be that the property offers little privacy being overlooked by the house, but this was not an issue for us. Also that being of Oak construction it does get VERY hot inside on a sunny day, and with heat retention sleeping proved near impossible on a couple of nights. There is only one openable window, and whilst both rooms have opening outside doors, using these compromised pet security so proved difficult to achieve a balance with.

It is also worth noting that whilst you can approach the cottage from the Lavant straight (New Road) to the north, you cannot exit that way. There is a 20yd one way system preventing you from rejoining the straight. Leaving the property is only done to the south which will entail a lengthy diversion around the Rolls-Royce factory to get back to Goodwood. Whilst we thought the local council were being over zealous in putting this road system in a subsequent smash between two cars, one of which was bucking the system and trying to exit north, proved that perhaps they had a point. (Turn right out of the drive...You have been warned!)

We were very pleased with Oak Lodge and the welcome and service provided. If visiting the area again we would certainly look to rebook.

“A little gem in West Sussex.”

An absolute gem of a find - built in the grounds of the owners large gardens, this cottage has a gorgeous location looking out over the fields and is an oasis of calm. Recently built, it is light, spacious and airy, big patio doors opening out from the bedroom and sitting room, funky and modern combined with traditional use of seasoned light oak beams. Lovely comfy L shaped leather sofa, ideal for a long laze, comfy bed, good linen.
Super location, ten minutes to Chichester or Arundel, one minute (literally) to Goodwood, it's handy for everything.
Excellent communication from the friendly owners, and a lovely touch, a welcome hamper full of local goodies, food, wine, lager etc, and a fridge with milk, eggs, butter etc.
And, for us, most importantly our Golden Retriever, was allowed to stay as well - terrific dog walking all around the area.
All in all, highly recommended!
