I have fond memories of this place. Back in 1987 it was serving the best flapjack I'd ever tasted and a great place to hang out at least a couple of times a week. How sad then today to return all these years later..
At first nothing looked much changed, the lovely woodsmoke smell, cosy old world charm...All this was soon forgotten though. The eye watering prices have already been detailed ( I spied the cake prices and quickly reduced my order from three cakes to one) The one piece of cake I purchased, ginger, turned out to be so repellant, ( bitter, powdery and dry) I was on the point of calling the waitress over to suggest a mistake had been made with the recipe. However my sister pointed out the information card with our order which decried all things delicious such as sugar or butter ( fodder of satan! ) and trumpeted the use of alternatives, which may make the cakes look ok but make it taste disgusting. Never have I paid so much money for cake and never have my food loving family refused to eat it. I also particularly disliked the way the previously mentioned info card claimed" other establishments seek to deliberately mislead over ingredients) how sour and petty!
Cakes are supposed to be an occasional treat. No treats here and no generosity of spirit either. Pretentious, preachy and pricey!
