“Simply superb.”
Reviewed 21 April 2014 for a stay in March 2014

The buildings and facilities are world class, and the calm country setting is sublime. From the moment we stepped inside we were wrapped in a blanket of peace and warmth; the perfect place to unwind after a transatlantic flight. The owners are amazingly considerate, helpful, and kind, sharing their love of their idyllic home farm and way of life with their guests.
It was separately simply extraordinary to be able to look up at the old flint walls in the property and realise that some of the flints were likely to have been used in the large Roman villa that nearly 2000 years ago once stood around what is today the centre of a modern farm. With with two historic cities within very easy reach, and surrounded by villages offering several excellent gastro pubs and restaurants, Pitlands Farm Barns has it all! We shall return!

“Fantastic First Class Accommodation”
Reviewed 25 October 2012 for a stay in October 2012

The Cart Shed is in absolutely pristine condition and very eco-friendly. The owners are also extremely friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We have dogs and so the country walks which surround and go far beyond the property were perfect and the private, fenced garden was ideal. I do not hesitate to recommend this accommodation.

“Luxury accommodation in an amazing location.”
Reviewed 14 May 2012 for a stay in May 2012

We stayed in the Cart Shed and it was very stylish luxury accommodation for 4 persons with disabled facilities and plenty of space. The hosts are charming and there were some home-made goodies for us on arrival. The sheets & towels are of good quality and the beds comfortable. The underfloor heating is lovely and the wood burning stove kept us very warm in such a large space. It is not a criticism but if renting the Cart Shed on its own, the lounge area of the attached rental is upstairs and is over both bedrooms and the kitchen and there is some noise transfer. This is not made clear on the web-site and may put some people off. Please enquire when booking would be my advice. Location is excellent for visiting lots of places.

Management Response

Thank you for your kind comments.
We have now carpeted the living area of the Granary which is above the bedrooms and kitchen of the Cart Shed. This has eliminated the noise transfer caused by walking on a wooden floor.

“Stunning location and accommodation, warm and welcoming hosts. Will definitely come again”

This was a short break with a friend and my border collie. The cottage itself is first class and very spacious, with an enclosed and fairly private garden with good quality garden furniture and great views. We were particularly pleased to have quality mattresses on the beds (so often not the case in holiday rental properties). It's also great that both bedrooms are en-suite - again quite unusual. The location is off the beaten track and we were able to do several really beautiful very long walks from the front door across the rolling valleys beyond to remote village villages. Jenny and her (extended) family were extremely friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. I am looking forward to coming back with my husband later in the year.

Liked best: The whole experience
Liked least: Be aware that you can hear footfall (but nothing else) from the upstairs room in the barn adjacent .

“Fabulous holiday accomodation, friendly owners”
Reviewed 20 February 2012 for a stay in November 2011

We were lucky enough to stay at this fabulous property for nearly 7 weeks while we were between houses. The cart shed had everything we could wish for as a temporary home. We also added a few of our personal affects such as photos & rugs & our lovely Goldie so it really felt like a home from home. We really didn't want to leave. We stayed there from November until after Christmas & also took over the Stables with our children & grandchilden for a wonderful family Christmas get together. I could also have my disabled parents to stay as the disabled facilities in this unit are excellent. Thus the properties are suitable from new borns to 85 year olds & beyond!! The walks are tremendous & thankfully the pubs not too far, the Hare & Hounds a short walk 15mins, the Barley Mow about 35 mins & the pubs at Funtington & Compton about 1 hour 30 mins. Also its not too far from one of our favourite beaches on the Witterings. Shopping in Chichester is only about a 15 minute drive. We found Jenny & Philip & their lovely family very friendly and they did everything & beyond to make our stay comfortable. Even though there were builders working on their sons cottage next door we hardly heard anything & were not disturbed at all. The views from all the windows are gorgeous. We would definately recommend this property for a relaxing holiday especially for dog walkers & bird & wildlife enthusiasts. Also their eco efficient ethos meant that the conversion was cosy, draft free & perfect even though it was a huge open plan space. We loved it!
