Having been born and raised in the area, I was looking forward to heading to The Fox goes Free for a nice evening out with lovely food and great ambience - just like I used to remember. The ambience was fantastic with a log fire and a real local pub feel. The food however has really gone downhill. All our courses had to be sent back - even the bread was stale. The fish was overlooked and greasy. The duck was hard, burnt and rock hard. Sending our food back was greeted with patronising comments such as this is the way it is supposed to be. Our meals in the end were replaced with ones of a better quality. The young man serving us offered a complimentary free drink as a gesture for the poor quality of the food. This would have been a good act of customer service had our glass not been topped up with about half water and half white wine. This was a slap in the face and great insult. But then again what can you expect when the place was being run by immature & unprofessional young people. All my friends and family who still live in the area have been well informed to stay away! Fox Goes Free? Or Fox Got Shot?

We went there for a friends birthday and were really dissapointed, not much to say really but for the menu selection the prices were ridiculous 10.50 for ham and chips, 12.50 for sausages and mash???.The starters also vastly overpriced. the food itself is very average and the service not that great either, dogs running all round the bar will not be returning.

We have visited "The Fox Goes Free" about 6/8 times a year for the last five years.
The 17th Century pub is in a beautiful location in a small village near the South Downs close to Goodwood. It is full of character and the large garden has one of the best views of the rolling hills of the South Downs I know.
You may eat in the restaurant, bar area or garden.Service is normally excellent although on a few occasions has been a little off-hand.
There is an extensive menu ranging from home made soup to steaks (see the sample menus on the website); there is often a mediterranean 'feel' to the menu. Prices are at the upper end however the portions are reasonable and the quality of the food and presentation is very good.
We are always happy to go back!

We live nearby in Bosham and we're already spoilt for choice with the pubs close to us. However we were going to the Weald and Downland museum and thought the Fox Goes Free would be ideal for lunch afterwards. We had not been for a couple of years and we were really looking forward to our Sunday roast. The surroundings are gorgeous, friendly welcome and comfortable interior. The roast, however, had leathery meat, garlic and rosemary potatoes that just didn't go with the beef and watery vegetables. It's not hard to make tasty gravy but nobody there seems to be able to make gravy. The whole meal lacked any flavour and for the price you pay you expect something special. It seems a little bit like they're resting on their laurels. Come on Fox - you can do so much better!
