“Good but room for improvement”

Firstly the play Amadeus was brilliant, no complaints there. Also the venue is good, however we felt there were a few issues. The main one for us is that we were a family party hoping to have a sandwich at the cafe before the matinee. We were surprised that the cafe is tiny - our local small theatre has a much larger cafe. There were 3 packets of sandwiches in the cabinet, and two of our party are vegetarian. There was a board listing a variety of sandwiches, and we assumed we could order but not so. We made do, but then had to hunt round for chairs. Secondly we noticed several people with mobility problems struggling with stairs and were puzzled that there didn't appear to be a lift, unless we just didn't see it. Finally our seats had very limited leg room.
The cafe although small could be improved by the addition of more chairs, and ensuring the chiller cabinet is adequately stocked, this may sound a small matter but is annoying when arriving at the theatre after a long journey, with no time to go into the town.

22 million has been spent on the refurbishment of this theatre. I can't see where the the money has gone. The women's toilet facilities are the same-queuing!The seats are uncomfortable with not much leg room. There are not separate hand rails on the stairs, which means if you need to use the rail you are likely to come on contact with the people using the adjacent staircase, not good
There are certainly more food and drink facilities, but these are expensive. £5.00 for example for a very mediocre glass of wine.I loved the performance of Amadeus but very sad that the expensive improvements to this theatre do not enhance the enjoyment of the average theatre goer.

My friend and I went to CFT last night to see Amadeus. Whilst we thought the play and cast were fantastic, we were very disappointed in the refurbishment. I know many, many people have raved about it, but we felt that too many seats had been squeezed in, the aisles are now too narrow and the ladies toilets by the booking office are a disaster. Seats - is it our imagination, but have they lessened the leg room in order to accommodate the extra seat? Aisles - way too narrow now, leading to people struggling to get to their seat; it now also means that the staff selling ice creams in the interval are limited to the area right in front of the stage, so the rest of the audience have to fight their way, in a tide, downstairs to the foyer, against those who have made their purchase fighting their way to get back up to their seats. Ladies toilets - the ones by the booking office have very limited capacity, poor lighting and what a squash! I'm sure there have been many, many improvements, especially backstage, but we were very very disappointed.

Chichester theatres always have great pre-West End productions. We love the park setting. Always worth a visit.

I was lucky enough to be at the Chichester main theatre on Saturday night for it's first night re-opened. The production was Amadeus which was fabulous, the newly fashioned theatre is wonderful and the restaurant was a triumph
