“Sunday lunch after the estuary walk”
Reviewed 13 April 2014

Perfect day, perfect food with cgood hoices on the menu for us all including ginger ice cream with our crumbles. Absolutely no faults found. None of us chose a traditional Sunday roast but I am sure that would have been as good as any of the other choices we made. Loos seemed refurbished too! Everything done with a smile and cheeky comments from the staff which was great and they also welcomed the three dogs we had with us, albeit we were outside...I think we could have taken them inside if necessary.
We have visited many times before but it seems to get better every time!

“The perfect place for a pub lunch”
Reviewed 25 March 2014

We are a walking group of 6 and used this lovely pub on Monday 24/3/14 for lunch. My wife and I, as leaders of the walk, also tested it on Friday lunchtime on 21/3/14.
On both occasions we thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the ambience of the property. Very unusually the pub looks after its regular drinkers in the main bar with the same dedication that the diners enjoy. Often 'regulars' are discouraged to make way for more profitable dining places. The property is beautifully maintained, the genuine home made food is first class and excellent value for the quality offered. We all ate off the set daily special menu which offers 2 or 3 courses at fixed prices. We were impressed to note the menu had completely changed on our second visit.

The different staff on both days were all so friendly and attentive - their service couldn't be faulted. The only blot on this otherwise enthusiastic recommendation is the coffee. Landlord please consider using cafetiere instead of the pot which had stewed ours!

“Just the best pub food”
Reviewed 23 March 2014

Tucked away about 5 miles from Chichester, this is a traditional pub that has been serving good food for years but was today even better than ever. There's a menu of the day with limited choices, so all food is freshly made. As said here before, the pies are delicious with real, homemade pastry made with butter and on the bottom of the pie too. It's surprising how much you can eat when food is this good! The meat was tender and the gravy so tasty, and lots of it, too. Fresh veg, cooked just right. Puddings - once again a limited choice and all fresh. We had cranberry, orange and walnut brownies served with real vanilla ice cream and warm chocolate sauce. Others in the group had ice creams and sorbets. All delicious. One of the best things is that as you walk in you face the bar and are met by a most friendly and hearty welcome. We had the round table by the fire and were very comfortable there, while it hailed and sleeted outside. Cost including a soft drink each and tea/coffee after the meal was £20, which is very hard to beat and in other places nearby you could add £10 to that and not get the quality we enjoyed. We are all planning to return and would definitely recommend it. It was busy - you need to book. There are lots of great walks to do from here.

“Back to our favourite pub ...”
Reviewed 5 March 2014

Super menu, welcoming staff and as always really good food, pub could be a little warmer but worth pre-booking and having the round table in front of the fire if this is an issue for you - hard to beat regarding lovely food at very good value !
