We found this lovely hidden garden by accident on our first ever visit to Chichester this weekend. The view from the old Roman Wall across the gardens to the Cathedral is really beautiful, and the gardens themselves are gorgeous and very well kept. Definitely worth an extra hour spent here if you are going to the Cathedral.

As avid geocachers we were keen to visit the gardens to locate a cache placed there. Admittedly our visit took place in January, but the gardens looked unloved and uncared for. There seemed to be very little winter planting/foliage. A public garden should be a treat for the senses all year round. I bought a postcard from the cathedral shop which showed its beauty in spring/summer when most tourists visit. Chichester Council; surely the locals would appreciate it being a place of beauty all year round

The gardens are my most favourite place in Chichester - a secret garden, located adjacent to the Cathderal (with entrances from Avenue de Chartres and South Street). It's the best place for a picnic, and children love the numerous trees to hide behind and the grassy slopes leading to the city wall to scale. No food facilities, though, and the nearest toilets would be in the Cathdral itself. It is also an alcohol-free zone.

Located close to the Cathedral, these gardens have a unique quality that blends colour and quiet charm. I envy the local people who have the opportunity to take time to rest and enjoy moments of peace and relaxation in such a wonderful setting on a regular basis. For us, an hour's rest on a busy afternoon of sightseeing, was a delighful interlude.
