Maison Blanc, Chichester, was always warm, friendly and atmospheric, and a delightful to spend time over the paper. Yes, tables were crowded and you sometimes had to wait for a seat - but that's a good sign. The revamped and refitted cafe has lost so much charm and character and the range of cakes and breads appears to be much less than pre-refit. The staff are still excellent, but the new decor and cafe is soulless and without charm - I could be in a dozen other cafes in the area. I also am not a fan of bread and cakes sitting on an uncovered table in the centre of the shop: this is unhygenic and has put me off eating there. Bring back the long chilled counter with the wide range of delicious cakes and pastries. What a shame to change a winning formulae.
