The George and Dragon
Ranked #49 of 69 Chichester B&B and Inns
Reviewed 24 November 2013

I stayed at the George and Dragon for one night for business and have to say it was excellent value for money.

The hotel is situated right in Chichester town centre, meaning that it's handily located for food, pubs and there's a cinema not too far away too.

I checked in quickly, though I did have to ask for a receipt, and was shown to my room, which was clean, large and modern. Standard hotel amenities were provided, including decent wifi and towel. The accommodation is through the bar and in a converted barn building in the back, split into three blocks of four rooms, two on each of the two floors.

The morning after I was served a very good full English breakfast, and there were continental options laid out to help myself to. I noted that the waiter was very attentive at taking other guests custom orders, which is a good sign. Only slight criticism is that the breakfast was served in the conservatory extension on the main building, meaning that first thing in the morning in October, it was very cold. I ate breakfast with my coat on.

Overall, for £55, it was great value and would absolutely stay again.

Stayed on a Saturday night after watching King Lear at the Minerva. Just what we needed. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. There is parking nearby. We didn't eat there in the evening as the menu felt a bit meat heavy (we don't eat meat) but the breakfast was spot on; have the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Will definitely go back next time we are down this way for the theatre.

Stayed here on business; 3 nights a week for 4 months. I booked in for the first week as it was all I could get but very quickly realised that it is an absolute gem and booked out my stay there. Great, friendly staff. Comfortable, well equipped rooms, good selection of beers in the bar. Excellent breakfasts and very good restaurant. I didn't eat there often as I am vegetarian and they don't offer much in that area but with so many restaurants within 5 or 10 minutes walk, that wasn't a problem.
I will be returning (for pleasure rather than business) in the future.

Just outside the city center the George and Dragon can rightly be called a hidden gem for those who are looking for a stay in a quiet, comfortable and clean room. Located in the old stables detached from the friendly-service pub. Free wifi in the cloud. Breakfast better than average, with fresh fruits, a choice of good marmalades to be taken from big pots and NOT vomited into plastic cups, regular, not overly refined old-fashioned British-taste coffee, good English-style breakfast to keep you going for a week or more.

Stayed here for one night and would definitely stay again. The room was clean and the bed was sooo comfy, the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice, and even though it wasn't on the menu, they readily cooked us poached eggs. The staff were very friendly and helpful especially when we couldn't unlock our door after a brill night out.

Good value for money as your in the centre of town, the breakfast is excellent and included rate. On the down side I couldn't get any hot water in the shower and some parts of the room needed a good dust. Plus the WIFI is awful, but it's probably more pleasant than a travel lodge and the pub it's self is good.
