My one night stay in this pub started by being offered a ground floor room with a hole in the wall and tiles falling off the shower compartment, plus a terrible smell of mould. I complained and was offered an upstairs room. The smell of mould was worse, the one window was misted over, the curtains were cheap thin cotton letting in the light. The beds were old and tatty. The towels were good. Bathroom v small with 70cm shower cubicle. Outrageous for £60.... The food was good, staff courteous, but the worst experience I have ever had while travelling alone.

Room Tip: Check the room before you book!

Good points - Cheerful pleasant young staff , Very good breakfast, Convenient location, Rooms located away from pub.

Bad points - Dingy room with poor lighting, Fixtures and Fittings of a poor quality, Towels not changed, Shower did not stay on its clip and water was too hot to use without fear of being poached, At £80per night, including a Sunday - overpriced.

George &Dragon cannot make it's mind up whether it is a hotel or a B&B. It certainly charges hotel prices, but it is in essence merely a pub with rooms.

Room Tip: If you want a good room, go somewhere else!

The George and Dragon is a nice pub with accommodation. The rooms are located in a separate building behind the pub. The room was of average quality. Very cramped and poor sitting area. Otherwise nothing special. Very thin walls and ceiling, Could hear other guests speaking and walking through their rooms. Breakfast was very good, but the pub didn't look spotless clean.

Fleur and her boss were really good to us when we had locked ourselves out of our house around the corner from G&D on my 30th birthday. We made it just as they were closing up for the night after coming in from an indulgent day in London. They were friendly and sympathetic and kindly gave us a charitable upgrade which took away some of the sting of the situation. The room was comfortable and clean and breakfast was satisfying too. Thank you! (The letting agent provided a spare key to let us back in in the morning! )

Wonderful warm & friendly welcome at the G&D. We could not have had a better Christmas, which is why we return again & again! Best breakfast we have ever found - no change there - is excellent. Great value for money, perfect location, so very convenient for everything. Highly recommend & looking forward very much to returning again ASAP.

Room Tip: Several ground floor comfy rooms - excellent for my disability
