“Great house...home from home”
Reviewed 5 August 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We booked this house for the week of Glorious Goodwood, it was perfectly located with village shop a short walk away and the supermarkets only a 5 minute drive away. We found some great places to eat especially the Star and Garter at East Dean which again was only a 5 minute drive away. The house was very clean and had everything you would need including all the household items like bin bags, dishwasher tablets etc. The house was nicely set out and had a beautiful garden with herbs and fruits which we were able to pick and enjoy at breakfast. Great walks from the house and the local pub just down the road had a good beer garden. Overall we had a great time at the cottage and would recommend it to anyone, Susan the owner was also very helpful answering any questions straight away.

“A wonderful break in a charming and comfortable English cottage”

We stayed for two weeks with our young children (8 and 9) and their grandmother in this lovely house. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed the cottage (comfortable beds, a thoroughly well equipped kitchen and a really cosy snug with an excellent library) and its delightful garden (a source of inspiration to the gardeners in our family!) as well as the beautiful Sussex countryside. The garden is enclosed and secure but has a small pond so families with very young children should exercise care. There is plenty in the area for all the family to see and do, from the Tangmere aviation museum, where the kids got to sit in the cockpit of a jet fighter and try their hand at a flight simulator, to numerous National Trust properties and parks - Petworth House and Uppark House were particularly enjoyable - and other places of interest including Arundel Castle. We walked along the old Roman road which leads out of Halnaker and climbed the hill to Halnaker Windmill, visited the outstanding Historic Naval Dockyard in Portsmouth (really recommended for youngsters and adults alike with its Action Stations climbing wall and the opportunity to go onboard several old ships including HMS WARRIOR and HMS VICTORY) and spent the day on the beach at West Wittering. We also visited nearby historic Chichester several times with its great shops and restaurants, and enjoyed two really excellent lunches at Brasserie Blanc. In Halnaker, the Anglesey Arms is well recommended; a superb Sunday roast led us to return for an equally memorable dinner. We would recommend this welcoming cottage both for a family holiday and for adults wanting to enjoy a break and explore West Sussex.

“Interesting cottage with delightful garden”
Reviewed 9 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We stayed here as a family group of 5 adults at beginning of July. The weather was warm and sunny and we particularly enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful garden at the end of the day. The cottage is well situated for visiting the Chichester area, and we enjoyed excursions to many local attractions. The cottage is well equipped and appointed and the welcome pack, hairdryers and coffee, tea etc supplies were thoughtful touches. It was a delight, too, to be invited to use produce from the garden.

It is a charming cottage, with cottage proportions, and these, for us, proved a bit of a challenge. Several of us are tall-ish, and the fact that a number of the doorways were lower than standard neight meant that we suffered quite a few banged heads. The bathrooms in the roof space presented similar challenges. We coped ok and we enjoyed our stay, but if you have tall people in your party you might find it useful to do what we did and hang warning notices over the doorways.

Thank you for your kind comments. I am pleased you and your party had a pleasant stay. The cottage was built around 1780 and therefore will have some doorway heights lower than standard.

“Beautiful house, charming garden, great location.”
Reviewed 9 April 2015 for a stay in April 2015

Stayed here with our two children and a small dog. Beautifully restored, well appointed house among the vineyards. Impeccably kept walled garden. Very comfortable stay. Surrounding area is stunning - south downs, beautiful beaches and chichester minutes away. We hope to come back!

“Home from home”
Reviewed 6 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

The reception rooms layout worked well with our children and grandchildren staying and a good sized kitchen helped when cooking for 10!. Lovely garden and sunny terrace looking out to the vineyard. An easy walk to the village shop and plenty of attractions nearby for all the family. A thoughtful welcome basket, comfy beds, a memorable family get-together.
