We booked this up as a wowvoucher discount break and had heard many negative things about Bradford but we had a brilliant stay, the room was lovely and clean newly decorated nice comfy bed and big tv.The rooms were very basic and i had read on earlier reviews that the rooms had no coat hangers so i went prepared with my own only to find out there was no pole in the wardrobe so you could not hang your clothes up anyway.the windows in the room did not open so if you are like me and you like a window open at night then i would not recommend staying here as nightime the rooms were stuffy. There was no information book in the room and we were told nothing on arrival regarding room service and breakfast times so we got cheap taxi and ate out around Bradford, we found the local taxi drivers very polite and helpful.Apart from the negative we made the most of our weekend stay and would recommend visiting York as we had a lovely day out.

A comparatively unassuming building greeted our arrival in what appeared to be the outskirts of the town centre. Inside was a different matter. The rooms were clean and very comfortable with the inclusion of jacuzzi baths in some. Tea/Coffee making facilities were there as well as a welcome choice of toiletries laid out on fresh clean towels. The staff were amongst the most helpful I've come across.
The breakfast was not lacking in choice and the cooked option was made freshly for you.
The Cartwright has a sister hotel called the Lister where evening meals are available and this was an eyeopener. The opportunity once greeted to sit and make an unhurried choice in comfort was nice and the food selection would have graced any London hotel. Again the staff were very helpful but not i the least intrusive. I wish our stay had been longer.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear have the advantage of being quieter but the quality is the same.

Stayed for a couple of nights. The room was small, however spotlessly clean, bed very comfortable lovely fresh bed linen, super fluffy towels and an imaculate bathroom with shower.
Having said that it was so shocking to see people smoking in the lounge area on both days clearly within sight of the staff. Oh dear... I thought this had been outlawed, what a shame as it appears the new management have made such a big effort. Also staff and customers smoking together in the entrance.

Dear Guest

Many thanks for your comments. I would just like to point out that we operate a No smoking policy throughout the hotel and am very shocked to hear that you have seen people smoking in the lounge. If I or my staff had seen or smelt smoke the offender would have been asked to leave.

We stayed just after Easter. The room was small but clean. It had clearly just been decorated and this was ourt most significant issue as the smell of gloss paint was quite strong, we had teh window open most of the time. It still needs work. There was a wardrobe in the room but no rail or hangers in it. We were only there two nights so living out of our suitcases was fine.

The bed was comfy. It was a small bathroom so a half size bath and a reasonably powerful shower. Nice TV and DVD player in the room.

The staff were friendly. The breakfast was fine but I'd suggest being specific about what you want. e.g say brown or white toast or you'll be given a mixture.

Our room was above the bar. It wasn't loud enough to stop us sleeping but there is audible music until the early hours of the morning.

We went on a 40winks deal so it was excellent value. It's about a mile into the city so it is walkable. We were also given a 20% discount on food in their sister hotel The Lister and had a very nice meal there.

It's being done up and I expect the niggles will be dealt with and the smell of paint will fade quite quickly. It's a good budget choice.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms above the bar if you're a light sleeper.

We are just back from staying at the Cartwright Hotel over Easter. I must admit to being quite apprehensive about staying here as I had read the earlier reviews and was not expecting much at all.

It just so happens that the hotel has just changed management and there has been an injection of investment, our room, whilst a little small was as clean and spotless as could be hoped for, all the bedding, mattress, towels, tiling, bathroom fittings looked to be brand new, and there was a rather large TV mounted on the wall which was great, no wardrobe unfortunately, but as mentioned the room was quite small and we managed just fine.

I cannot get over how friendly all the staff were and nothing was too much trouble for them, we really did like them. It was obvious that the hotel had undergone a transformation, as we arrived there was a team of workmen cleaning all the upvc conservatory.

Breakfast was lovely and the coffee was served in large Costa type cups and was delicious. There may be a few minor things still needing to be completed but it looked to us like they had things well in hand and the change from an obviously poor hotel to one that we would certainly visit again had taken place effectively.

Great budget hotel, superb staff and a great base to explore the local area.

We didn't stay in a room at the Cartwright; merely popped in for breakfast.

Unfortunately, and despite having given the hotel advance notice that we'd be breakfasting there, we had to wait 50 minutes in a cold dining area for our meals to arrive. No apologies or explanations were given.

When the breakfasts finally arrived, the food was mainly cold.

Sadly, we won't be taking a chance on dining again at the Cartwright.
