Bridge House
Ranked #17 of 20 Haworth B&B and Inns
Reviewed 29 February 2012

We stayed for one night in February and were given the double room at the front of the house, which overlooked a very rundown garden area. The room was oddly furnished utilising the modern with the very dated ; it was garish in decor, grubby in places, dusty and rundown....its odd that a radiator and skirting only need a lick of paint to refresh them but not so here.
The windows were covered by an 'inside' plastic sheeting which meant you could not open to let any air in. There were only velvet draw curtains hanging, which meant you were fully visible from the road outside; after showering you had to keep the curtains drawn and rely on the very dim lighting in the room, which wasnt ideal.
The bathroom was very clean/modern in its own right (which seemed odd in comparison with the rest of our room) but like all the doors in the property they spoilt the illusion by being grubby. The towels were grey and a little shabby, which was a bit off putting and added to the impression of overall uncleanliness.

The breakfast room was very cold and breakfast itself was adequate but it didnt feel relaxed and we were not offered any more tea/coffee...or toast...which to concur with the earlier review was cut too thinly for toasting!

We were very disappointed with the accommodation and do not think it warranted the £70 we were charged and after arriving there, we did in fact consider cancelling our stay but did not want to appear impolite to the owner who was an ameniable man.

It is a shame that this experience is rather negative, as the house as a B&B could be exceptional with sympathetic decoration and attention to houskeeping - unfortunatley we would not recommend at this present time.

We went to bridge house in October 2011. On entering our room there was a piece of biscuit the size of a 10p peice near the window, so much for a clean room. The room was large and airy but very cold. We put the radiator on while we went out for dinner, when we came back the radiator was off. It was on a timer. We found a fan heater which made the room a bit warmer. Lovely large bed shame the duvet was to small it just hung over the edge of the bed. Not much good when 2 average size adults got into bed. At breakfast we were not asked if we wanted white or brown toast. We did get both, the brown had burnt bits on it and the white was toasted french bread not very nice. We did ask for white only for the next day it was french bread again, very hard and thinly cut. We had to ask for extra milk and coffee at breakfast we were given a clean jar with coffee in. After we went out the clean jar had got and the coffee had been put into the original jar which had dried coffee round the rim.
On getting out the hairdryer which didn't work we noticed it had loose wires and neede a new fuse. It took my husband over 5 mis. to find the owner to repair it. The radiator in the bathroom was dusty, A fan heater was put on in the dinning room but once we sat down forr breakfast it was switched of, we was told it was just to take the chill of the room was still cold.We hardly saw the owners. After going out one day the bed hadn't been made. We know its only a B+B but you still expect a degree of cleanliness and hygeine. On our last morning a young girl served us and told us her parents had gone to the Lake District for the weekend, we hope the had a better place to stay than we had.We would not reccomend this B+B to anyone.

We stayed at Bridge House B&B for 2 nights in November, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The owners, Martin and Claire, were very friendly and made us feel very welcome right from the moment we arrived. Our room (the big double upstairs) overlooking the garden was lovely: airy and bright, and it yet it was warm enough at night. The book shelf on the first floor and in the dining room (full of books on the Brontes and local areas of interest) is a nice touch.

The breakfast was good, and the idea of having one single big table for all the guests to sit around was a nice one: we enjoyed chatting with the other guests.

Whilst the B&B is not exactly in the heart of Haworth (by that I mean the Main Street), it is only a 10-minute walk up an atmospheric cobbled street (rather steep though, and can be slippery especially in the rain), and it is a couple of minutes' walk from the lovely train station (where The Railway Children was filmed), with a Spar supermarket just around the corner.

Would definitely recommend this B&B to couples wanting a weekend break in Haworth, or those wanting to use Haworth as a base for a short holiday in the Yorkshire Dales (which was what we were there for).
