I first stayed here in April and it was great. I went back in July 2010 and I'm not sure what has happened...

The hotel itself is in a great location - 5 minutes on foot from the station / shops etc. Good sized rooms, White Company toiletries, iMac in each room, Wi-Fi (though a bit on the slow side), iron. Avoid rooms by the train track, they are noisy.

The food in the restaurant was fine but it took over 2 hours for us to get 3 courses, not good after a few hours travel. They then had the cheek to add on a 10% service charge! Needles to say, we didn't pay this. If you do eat here the steak & a glass of wine offer is worth having - nice meal.

Breakfast was great in April and poor in July. Not sure what's gone on here. I ordered bacon and poached eggs and my bacon was so overcooked I couldn't cut it! One poached egg was like a bullet and the other undercooked. I didn't have time to complain and just had more buffet. Perhaps it was a bad day? My scrambled eggs and smoked salmon the following morning was nice.

Other little things made breakfast less enjoyable such as no teaspoons on any on the tables, so everyone was having to ask and no smoked salmon on the buffet - That was on offer both times I stayed there in April.

Staff are fine but nothing to write home about - apart from the lovely guy that oversees breakfast. What a star! He wasn't there for 'bacon-gate' - maybe that's what went wrong?

If I was paying, I'm not sure I'd stay here again.

Nice hotel but lost some of it's shine since I was there earlier in the year.

this hotel is fabulous. clean modern rooms, polite staff, good position and lovely breakfasts!. I would have been highly delighted if I paid twice the price but for £69.00 a night including breakfast you cannot go wrong. The roof terrace was a very chic place for a drink with expansive views over Leeds, definately the highlight of the trip. The soundproofing in the hotel is unbelievable, we woke up on sunday morning turned the aircon off and listened...nothing. Top class.

Excellent modern hotel, roomy and bright with good wifi and imac facilities, room services, bars and restaurant. I thought the staff on the evening of my arrival seemed a bit tired and unsmiling, but overall the service was very good and courteous. The location on the river is very pleasant and convenient for the town centre. Highly recommended.

Travelled to Leeds for a sporting event, and very much wanted to unwind in comfort after a busy day. City Inn ticked all the boxes, from cheap valet parking, through a pleasant lobby with efficient staff, to immaculate rooms with tasteful decor. The in-room Mac with broadband connection is a stylish touch, as is the brilliantly designed bathroom. All the usual touches are there, including bath robes and enormous towels. Mini-bar is well stocked. Everything was spotlessly clean, especially impressive given the all-white decor/linen.

Can't recommend this place highly enough - posh hotel feeling on a value hotel budget. Most definitely worth the extra £20 for the step up from travel lodge.

I stayed at the City Inn for three nights (4-6 July 2010). It is a new hotel in a delightful part of Leeds, in the newly-developed old warehouse sector. The old canal runs right past it, and the old warehouses, mostly developed into hotels, are attractive. On the other side is the main railway station, also clean and attractive (if a railway station can be), and with the windows closed, there is a not peep to be heard from the frequent trains.

Rooms are modern and very comfortable. Showers, no baths, but everything spanking clean, new and functional. Only duvets are provided, which I found impossibly hot, and the pillows are rather hard: nevertheless I slept like a log every night.

Every room has free internet access (why don't more hotels have this?) and a Mac desktop computer, which is a wonderful luxury.

Breakfast is slightly disappointing in that there are no cooked dishes provided, but cooked breakfasts are available on order, and for extra payment - probably better, as the usual buffet breakfasts in most hotels suffer from being slowly stewed for hours...

The bar is right on the canal, and the cheerful barman (from York) quite a character: he remembered our drinks from one day to the next, and was very willing to have an agreeable chat.

The staff were professional and pleasant. But with >300 rooms, service cannot be said to be personalised (apart from the barman). Still, it's really a business hotel, and as such is practically faultless.
