Having visited LBM on a few occassions now (Including their new, more spacious cafe @ bond court) and introducing most of my coffee-minded friends to it,
I am confident that this is the best place to get a real coffee in Leeds city centre.
The house blend ticks all the right boxes, and is full bodied enough to work with milk, without having the bitterness or harshness of over-roasted / old beans that
occupy so many of our 'cafes'.
There is also a carefully chosen guest coffee, which changes every few weeks or so.
Clearly the cafe is proving to be a success - especially as there's enough room in Leeds for a second one (the aforementioned bond court) and
it's interesting to see how this evolves over time.
Two recent changes I've seen made for the worse however, are:
1. The removal of Italian language from the food counter - gone is the pollo ciabatta - we now simply have chicken sandwich.
Perhaps understandable, given that we're in the UK, but the whole charm of LBM is its genuine authentic Italian nature, and I hope that this
isn't the start of an errosion of that Unique selling point.
2. Simplification of the sandwich ingredients - sticking with the Pollo Ciabatta as an example - this used to have sundried tomato and a pesto,
and sadly it's basically now breaded chicken and chewy lettuce.
Hopefully, whilst this cafe evolves and grows from the success which it deserves, it will not lose sight of all that made it great.
