I came up from London, stayed for one night in Leeds Discovery Inn on Monday 26th April 2010, (room 335) but was shocked to have left with red itchy spots which after much research appear to be BED BUGS (never had them before!) and now I have to steam, smoke and wash everything in sight. Very disappointed and upset.

Otherwise, Leeds is a great city. Really friendly people and great history.

We booked this hotel for a hen do. We wanted simple clean accomodation. The 3 star rating and the hotel's website indicated that this hotel would be suitable. The website said that the hotel had recently been refurbished. If this is true then I am at a loss to see where any refurbishment has taken place. The site said the hotel lift was not in use but a porter would be on hand to help with bags. This wasn't true! Our first room had no shower, when we asked to change rooms we were told "I knew you lot were going to be trouble" The second room we were sent to was for 2 people not 4 and as we entered there were people already staying in there! The 3rd room at first seemed okay however, we discovered a huge wet patch on the carpet that when we put a white towel over it it turned yellow. We concluded that this was wee!! There was chewing gum stuck to the window sill, old food stuck to the bed covers, stains all over the ceiling. The only good point was the bed sheets were clean. The shower didn't work in our friend's room. When we booked we asked the price of a single room and were told £40. When we got there it was £55 and he wouldn't budge on this. Rooms at the Marriot were £55 so to pay that for this slum was absurd! The website decieves you into thinking that this is a basic but decent hotel. This is not the case at all. I will always now go for travel lodges and premier inn type places when we want simply a clean hotel room for the night! It does not deserve the 3 star rating. The receptionist was friendly but not very professional and he certainly did not seem equipped to deal with complaints and you very much got the impression that he was used to the reaction he got from us. I would strongly warn against staying at this hotel as there are far nicer ones in Leeds for the same price.

We found the hotel very well situated for everything we wanted to see and do, including the West Yorkshire Playhouse.
The bedroom was warm and spacious. The bathroom was particularly large.
The staff were very helpful.
We had the Continental Breakfast which was excellent value and situated in a bright sunny dining room.
We would definitely stay at the Discovery Inn the next time we are in Leeds to attend the theatre. At £40 per night , where else could you get a city centre room. so well situated for all cultural activites and across the road from the train station?

Stayed in this hotel on a Fri night in March as we were in town for a gig in the 02 Academy and i have to say it served the purpose well. Its located right at the main train station with a pub on either side(had a drink in both & enjoyed both pubs-safe enough), a cafe and a fast food place right accross the road, dead handy location for getting into & around the city centre and close enough to the venue mentioned.
The single room was fairly basic but very clean it has to be said, all the basics-kettle,tea,portable telly etc and the toilet/shower was spotless with clean towels and shower gel supplied and a decent enough electric shower. All in all id recommend this hotel if your just in town for a gig/party/session/good time, if your looking for something special or want to hang around your hotel all day dont book this place, but for a cheap city centre stay-which above all is clean, id definitly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is cheap and conviently located across from the rail station. The list of positives ends there.

The room was cold. The plumbing was idiosynchratic. The fixtures were old. The bathroom was dirty. The bed was uncomfortable. The breakfast was spartan.

Almost forgot --- I was harassed in the small hotel lobby (NB: reception is on the third floor) by a couple of lads who pretended to be security guards and stood between me and the stairwell door demanding my room number and to see my key. This was at 730 in the morning.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. Its the kind of place I imagine one might take a lady of the night, and the sheets would support this view. For some reason, breakfast had to be served in my room, which included 2 cheese slices, amongst other delights. There is no bar, mini or otherwise. I walked in, dumped my bag and did the only thing a sane person could do - went straight back out to the nearest bar and drowned my sorrows til it was bedtime. The room was freezing, but the spare sheets in the wardrobe were strangely sticky.... Oh, and it smelled of wet dogs. I've returned home from my business trip feeling a bit like I have a germ.
