“Weekend Break”
Reviewed 3 September 2014

We booked this via Groupon as we thought it was a good deal. Hotel, room and food great, Location perfect for a city break, however we weren't informed of the £20 for 24 hours parking charge (even for guests). As we were in the town centre we had no option but to pay the £40 for the two nights. It really put a dampener on our weekend, as we were on a budget so had to watch our pennies all weekend.

It was a shame as the hotel itself was lovely. Well decorated, clean and cosy. However, because of the parking we won't be going back any time soon!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed here for a family get together, taking three rooms in all. We were pleased with the hotel's central location. Our room was right at the top of the hotel and though scrupulously clean, was very dated and not especially nice, nor accessible by lift. We parked in the hotel car park which cost £20.00 for an overnight stay - quite expensive but convenient. Unfortunately, when we came to leave the next morning, another vehicle had bumped the corner of our car and damaged both paint and bodywork. When we advised reception, they were reluctant to pass any comment about their CCTV footage of the car park for fear of their liability and we were told that should we wish to take matters further, we would probably have to get the police involved. We bit the bullet and drove home. We did ask them to view the footage however and let us know what they saw but no contact has been made to date. I thought a reasonable gesture of goodwill would have at least been to refund the £20.00 car park charge (our party did take three rooms after all) or perhaps suggesting to the guest who bumped our car that they make contact. Neither has ocurred Suprisingly enough, we won't be staying here again!

Room Tip: Not on the very top floor.

We booked an overnight stay here last Sunday as we had to pick our son up from Leeds Festival..We were simply using it as a place to sleep so were not really expecting a lot from our stay there..We got around the extortionate £20 parking fee by parking in a nearby street which worked out ok as it was free to park at the meter on the bank holiday(why pay the wardens an enhanced rate when the streets will be half empty)..It is a majestic looking place but tired at the edges...We checked in painlessly and took the lift to our 3rd Floor room and as the doors opened we were greeted with a calvary of about 30 empty glasses and bottles lining the skirtings in the corridor. The maids were preparing the adjoining rooms, it should be said,(it was 4.30 in the afternoon though)it just seemed a bit squalid for what is meant to be a 4*establishment ...Our room was clean and comfortable enough with two double beds bolted together to make one huge bed,the extra bed we paid for had not arrived but came later(a camp bed it turned out) this left not a lot of space in the room but that did not matter too much as we intended to be out most of the evening. The plumbing(mentioned in other reviews) all worked fine (Sam had a bath in fact to test it all out)..We returned to the room about 8.00pm and, incredibly ,the line of glasses and bottles were still there...we decided to go out for a drink but nowhere was really suitable with our young son in tow(noisy club/pubs with Gorillas on the doors and punters resembling refugees from Geordie Shore lining up outside) We were forced to return to the hotel bar which was a bit sad but made worse by there being only 1 bloke behind the bar struggling to serve lots of people spilling over from a huge and raucous wedding reception in the main room.Drinks were also very expensive (£21 odd for a bottle of unremarkable plonk) no decent beer available either Somewhat dismayed after one drink we went out to the local Tesco Express and got a bottle of wine and some snacks and retreated to the room (the glasses and bottles had actually been removed at this point) The bed was comfortable but after getting off to sleep we were rudely disturbed by some of the wedding guests who were obviously staying in the hotel (this was about 3,30am) having a drunken argument for about half an hour right outside our room door...Thanks for that....Next morning we went down to breakfast which was self service and very nice, but I found myself sneering at people who might have been the noisy ones who kept us awake I would have happily punched them if was not so frail(I expect they were too hung over to get up for breakfast anyway) So...things did not turn out too well for us but you can't really blame the hotel...Overall the place is ok(not what I would regard as 4*) If you are invited to a wedding there by all means go as they all seemed to be having a wonderful time of it) If you are after just an overnight visit where you need a bit of sleep avoid this place at weekends(or at least check there's not a wedding on)....It does look nice from the outside and could not have been more convenient for the Railway Station where we picked our son up from...A Travelodge would have sufficed were it not for a Groupon Voucher we used....(make sure the reception actually make a note of the fact you have made a booking as there was a slight mix up at check-in but it was quickly resolved)

Room Tip: If you are not a guest at one of the Wedding receptions here and have an urge to sleep choose a room...

We recently got married at the Met hotel. In the run up to our big day we were a little anxious about some of the poorer reviews we'd read on trip advisor. The whole day was perfect, the staff couldn't do enough to help and nothing was too much trouble, the day ran seamlessly and the wedding breakfast was divine! All our guests commented on what a lovely hotel we'd chosen - I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this hotel to a friend or family member so thank you to all who were involved you made our wedding day perfect in every way!

We booked this hotel last minuet just for a night away. we were surprised when it was lovely & close to the station & shops, walking through the doors we were pleased with the look, it was (to us) up market, very clean and tidy, reception staff were friendly & helpful, we were able to book in early, which was helpful, the room was lovely although a little small, the drinks were expensive, so we did drink out. Breakfast was great, a full selection of what ever you wanted, help yourself so you could eat as much as you like. Again the staff were friendly & helpful. we enjoyed our stay very much & will definitely return.

Came to celebrate our anniversary. Was upgraded on check in which was a lovely surprise to a superior room. Gorgeous hotel building but a little knocked in places. Suite was great with a separate dressing and sitting area to the bedroom. Just can't believe it had no air conditioning - especially as visited at the end of July when temperatures reached 30 degrees and became a vert sticky and unpleasant nights sleep with just a single fan! Only other gripe was being woken up very early to fire alarm and being herded into the streets like animals and not informed of the situation at all. After the fire brigade arrived and eventually left we were just signalled to re-enter the building with no apology or explanation which was a little poor in my view and ruined our anniversary morning

Room Tip: Room with a fan in the summer

We booked into this hotel for a weekend away in Leeds as it was right in the centre.
It has a nice looking reception as you walk in nice & bright.
We were put on the 3rd floor so needed the lift or if feeling energetic, the stairs. The lift was a bit small so used the stairs...puff & pant...
The room was clean & tidy, but the decor does need to be updated. The biege and brown walls makes it a bit dour and dark. The bed was very comfortable, it needed to be after all day on your feet.
The bathroom was large and bright with enough space to put your things about the place
The staff were friendly & helpful throughout our stay.
The breakfast was a buffet style breakfast with planty of choice & was good to set you up for walking about Leeds.
Just a note, they do have a lot of weddings there, two on two separate days, we found we couldn't use the bar as it was being used for the wedding parties only.
There is plenty of car parking, undergound & overground, however check for pricing first it is not cheap
Overall a nice stay in a great location with nice staff.
