“Perfect city centre setting.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2014

We stayed here overnight for a birthday shopping trip for my daughter. The facilities were marvellous as was the decor. The location was perfect for our needs, right in the city centre. Valet parking was on the upper end of reasonable at £20, but we would have paid around that if we had caught the train. We enjoyed using the spa and pool, all of which appeared well kept. Breakfast was OK but not amazing, buffet style with nice hot food, only let downs were the over cooked eggs, anaemic bacon and soggy mushrooms. The concierge desk was very busy, allow time for collecting left luggage and cars. The 1871 bar was a nice respite for a drink after shopping.

Room Tip: Look for good deals on Trivago. Odd numbered floors have ice machines.

Fabulous hotel, located really centrally. Rooms a bit dated but everything else makes up for that. All staff really friendly. Bar and restaurant were very good, 4 of us had steaks and we all agreed they were right up there with the best of them. Breakfast the next morning ran like clockwork. Seated and served with hot drinks straight away and great selection of hot tasty breakfast items. The club lounge makes this hotel exceptional value for money. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Having been to this hotel a few times, the chance to be here again was greatly received. The staff are warm and pleasant and the atmosphere is inviting. The rooms are of a good size and very clean. I would like to gives special mention to Glenn and his staff in the 1871 bar who are very professional and the service outstanding, a pleasure to be seated in this bar. Also the big smile and warm charm of Lamin Darboe who cannot do enough for you and nothing is a problem, I thank you and hope to be here again soon. If you are traveling to Leeds please try this hotel if you have not been here before it is worth it.

We booked an executive double room, to take advantage of the club lounge for breakfast and drinks, only to find this was closed for breakfast at weekends! We had a fairly ordinary breakfast the first morning, where lattes and iced coffee are charged as extras....except the coffee machine wasn't working. The bed was worn out and lumpy and the ensuite cramped and dysfunctional. The shower over the tiny bath was too low for anyone over 5'7" tall and the bath itself too narrow to stand up in without hanging onto the handrail for dear life.

Even on the fourth floor, you can hear the drunken rabble spilling out of the bars on the main drag well into the night and the police sirens wailing. Make sure you're on the top floor for weekend stays or bring some ear plugs.

On the plus side, the staff were pleasant and cheerful and tried to make up for the inadequacies of the tired old building. This really needs some money spending on it to give them a hotel to be proud of.

Dear RosieandTheBeagle

Thank you for your review.

I am sorry that you had a disturbed night’s sleep due to the external noise.
As we are in the City Centre we do sometimes get disturbance from the late night revellers and there is a lot of extra traffic as well.
Within the hotel we have installed triple glazing to help with this.
I hope you stay with us again in the future and if so i would suggest one of our Queen Bed rooms that don’t overlook Boar Lane and are shielded from a lot more of the external noise.

Regards

We stayed for one night with our 10 month old baby. There is no parking so had to pay £15 in the local NCP! We had a nice quiet room on the 6th floor which was very comfortable and roomy even with a cot. Bathroom clean but rather shabby. We had breakfast at the hotel as there was a £10 offer on, it is usually £17.50 which is a ridiculous price for a buffet. Food was good though. The only down side I would mention was the pool area was very run down with bulbs out and tiles missing from the roof, it actually looked quite dangerous and is in dire need of a makeover, there was also no staff to be found! All in all a pleasant stay with great staff but it does need some work if it expects people to pay the prices that they charge.

I've been staying in this hotel since Apr 2013, after trying several others in Leeds. Although the hotel does not have a modern look and feel, it is the one that makes me feel at Home away from home. In this hotel everything feels comfortable from the Staff to the organization of the services. In my opinion the staffs is where this hotel makes the difference. The level of treatment they provide you is just perfect, from casual conversation to problem solving. These last few months I've been amazingly treated by the collaborator Iliane, which makes all my breakfast much more enjoyable in the Business Lounge. She is one perfect example on how well the staff behavior is at this hotel.

Stayed here this August bank holiday weekend, 4 girls for my birthday. I go to Leeds for night out regular and have stayed in fairly budget hotels previously. Thought we'd go for something a bit nicer for my birthday. Great location can't be faulted. However from the minute we entered the hotel we were unhappy. Greeted with a rude, cocky woman on reception who responded as though I was stupid when I asked why the hotel car park states £9 daily charge though the car park states £20. We then had to leave our bags with the concierge as our room wasn't ready.. we went to the toilet came back and one of my bags had been left in the middle of the entrance unattended so I had to stand and wait by my bag until he came back.. he also broke my bag when we came to collect which he shrugged off as 'your bag broke'
The room was okay, but mucky. There were hairs on the towels and in the bathroom also shower gel residue in the soap holders from a previous guest. The walls were ridiculously thin as we learnt when we had to listen to a whole domestic unravel in the room next to us shouting and screaming that went on forever. Also had to listen to a Hoover the whole time we tried to have a nap along with the Jeremy Kyle show next door. I can only say I was disappointed with the experience which I hate to say. Not as you would expect from a Marriott hotel.
