“Canal Boat Escapes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2013

Recently home after a week on "Grace" a 4 berth narrow boat from Canal Boat Escapes . Cannot find fault with the company or Grace - impeccably turned out with every thing we could possibly need. Leeds / Liverpool being a wide canal presents some interesting challenges Vis a vis the Oxford canal, our last experience - a narrow canal. Operation of the double locks is entirely different and somewhat more involved, but as in everything after some practice, everyone's an expert ! This canal offers many features to enjoy, including a good proportion of swing bridges, fun to watch if you happen to be skipper of the day while the slaves do the work !Unlike the Oxford which traverses relatively flat terrain, the surrounding countryside, is of rolling hills to low mountains, in a word very scenic ( 2 words ) And of course the legendary amicable Yorkshire folk made our week that much more enjoyable . Skipton was for me a highlight, delightful market town oozing with character, plenty of watering holes to while away the evenings . Thoroughly recommended, Thanks to Richard and Karen, 5 stars well deserved.

“a nice stroll along the footpath”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 November 2013

live only a mile from the canal it is a tranquil place to walk on a pleasant day with plenty of wildlife to see if you walk on from apperlly bridge towards bingley you will come to the famous 5 rise locks it is a fantastic site to see if you are there when a barge arrives to rise up or down the the canal you can also take a barge for a pleasure cruise along the canal at many places along the water food and drink can be purchased on some of the trips which on the right day can be a great day out you do have to pay for cruise

“away from the traffic”

great scenic path to walk run or cycle, well spaced pubs alongside for refreshment. Watch out for muddy puddles here & there, and mooring ropes on the banks.

“Great place for walks”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

Lovely place for walks, specially on a sunny day! you can also go for a good run etc. At times there are teenage kids making silly pranks so be careful. You can walk quite far which is very pleasurable, can walk from the DoubleTree hotel until Kirksthall abbey.

“Worth Exploring”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

We found an interesting section of the canal near the Hilton Hotel in an area called Granary Wharf. Several boats were moored here and it was interesting to have a look at them. This area is surrounded by lots of terrific restaurants.
