I stayed here on a Monday night for business. My room was superb, the service great and the breakfast delicious. I thought the hotel was much more interesting and atmospheric than the usual business hotel I stay in. I would thoroughly recommend this for somewhere a bit more special to stay on a business trip.

Room Tip: Room 102 on the ground floor was fantastic, and quiet.

I'd like to start and say this hotel is right next to the train station which is a good start.
The bar area next to reception is really nice and the bar Man was really helpful and chatty. The only bad thing upto this point was the 3 o'clock check in (but it is a 12 o'clock check out) when we got to our room (executive room) it was really spacious the only thing I could say negative about the room was the pillows were really really soft way too soft but other than that this hotel is great and grand.

We had seen this hotel on a previous trip to Leeds and decided to stay, booking 3 nights just after New Year. A lovely red brick building, formerly owned by the Liberal Party, once through the glass doors just on your right is the entrance to the bar (The Porters Lodge) and also a lift. A few steps on and you're in the reception area which is in the well of the grand circular staircase, with magnificent stained glass windows taking you up.
The reception staff were very pleasant, we waited a few minutes as our hypoallergenic bedding was being sorted. This was no problem as we were a bit early and were just going to drop off bags, happy to be in the room early.
The room was lovely, spacious and clean with nice furniture, 2 seats at a small round table, side tables, dressing table, large lamps, etc. In the executive room we had 3 tall windows with heavy curtains (effectively cutting out light) but giving plenty of light during the day. The bed was large and comfortable, most important!
Yes there are signs of wear (small bit of tile in bathroom filled, sills a bit flaky/worn) but overall we were not bothered and it did not affect our stay.
We asked for more milk for coffee and also ice when we went passed reception later in the day and 5 minutes later a chap from bar bought it to us; very efficient and helpful.
Some things we were not so happy with; for all the time we were there they had a problem with the internet and we had no access, not a massive problem for us but possibly for other guests. The telephone to reception did not work, toiletries we used were not replaced unlike other hotels.
Be aware that at some time in the night there will be a loud emptying of bottles and if you are at the back you may well hear it; but no problem for us.
Overall we found the hotel to be different and comfortable and ideally placed for the city centre; we will return.

Room Tip: Rear rooms will have the sound of bottle bins being emptied at night.

A real find. A beautiful room with all the nicest touches (complimentary fruit, bottled water, ground coffee in the room and L'Occitane toiletries). Big fluffy towels and a very comfortable bed with the softest linen sheets. And all in a wonderful central location, a stones throw from the station. The staff were very helpful. I can't see myself staying anywhere else in future.

What a fabulous hotel!!
Check in from 3pm but we were able to leave cases and park our car early. Lovely reception at the hotel, very personable staff and always willing to help - we even had a guided tour through the history of the building and its development as a hotel. Our room was very comfortable and had been designed sympathetically to the building and its past. Our room had good quality toiletries, and a good selection of complementary drinks. The hotel doesn't have its own restaurant, although it has a breakfast conservatory. Room service is however available, and appeared quite extensive, but in the middle of such a fine choice of restaurants within an easy walk, we ate out by choice. Can't fault any of the details at all and what a fabulous location, just a short from City Square and shops. David in the Porters Lodge, the in house bar, was a mine of information and would be an early port of call on our next visit for booking restaurants etc Caroline the hotel operations manager was also very helpful, full of information about the place and always willing to help.
We can't find a single negative point to make about this hotel, and we will definitely be staying again on our next visit to Leeds. Many thanks to all.

Room Tip: Our room was one of the smaller rooms and overlooked a main road - plenty of room and no noise, We t...

Stayed in a spacious suite here just after new year when back in Leeds area seeing family and friends but enjoying a night away without the kids. We got a great last minute price on a suite, which was clean, well appointed and super spacious.
We opted for buying breakfast from m&s and eating in the room rather than paying the rather high price for hotel breakfast so can't comment on the food.

On arrival at the hotel, the entrance is quite grand. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The check in time was 3 o'clock which i found to be quite late in the day. Usually they are at two o'clock. I asked to be checked in early but they said they couldnt do that. I was staying in the balcony suite. for a suite i was quite underwhelmed by it. It was a lovely room, i just didnt think it was big enough to be classed as a suite. I suppose the whole benefit of this room was the balcony suite, which hence the name has a balcony, so it is good for smoker, however for a non-smoker like myself I didnt have a need for it. The wifi in the hotel was one of the worst i have ever experienced, 3G was faster! It was also quite dark in the room with poor lighting. The balcony entrance caused a draft in my room and it also wasnt particulary soundproof either. The hotel is quite noisy at night, but for the good location I can accept that. Overall it was a lovely hotel, with lovely staff but I dont think it was worth the money I paid for a suite. I would stay here again but would not splurge for a suite.
