“What a find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2014

A wonderful building and fantastic place to stay in an ideal location when arriving in Leeds by train and going to a concert at The First Direct Arena. We were given a free upgrade from a superior room to an out of this world suite which made our stay really special. The only downside was that we were not in the room long enough to make the most of this luxury. I can honestly say it was the most comfortable hotel bed with the best pillows that I have ever experienced.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra for a superior and you may be upgraded to a suite

This hotel is really nice and only a 2 min stroll from the train station. We were in an executive room which was very spacious - only downside was it was on the front of the hotel which has a very noisy road outside (all night long) we live on a main road so we didn't think it would bother us but it was so noisy. Would stay again for sure but would ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Breakfast is served in the conservatory on the 4th floor and was cooked to order and it was lovely. All the staff were really friendly too. Look forward to our next stay.

This is a sweet little independently owned boutique hotel, well appointed and ideally located in the heart of the city. It is a handsome, sturdy, Victorian structure, sympathetically renovated with many charming period features remaining. Rooms are modern and perfectly nice if a little less characterful than the communal parts. Ours was a tad small and a little noisy but very comfortable and we were more than happy for the price paid. A busy itinerary meant we didn't utilise the hotel for any meals but the staff we did encounter were friendly and helpful and the place felt well run.

We stayed in Leeds for two nights, one of which was for the Eric Clapton concert at the Arena. Our room was well-appointed, particularly the bathroom and there was a good level of cleanliness. It faced the front and was on the ground floor so there was abit of street/traffic noise but nothing unbearable. (We deliberatley chose a city centre hotel so we can't really complain!)

This is a very handsome Victorian building and it is furnished in keeping with its style and architecture.

Shortly after arrival, we had a drink in the cocktail bar. The barman was chatty and friendly. He made a caipirinha at my request (during the World Cup!) although it wasn't on the drinks menu. A few olives or nuts would have been appreciated but they didn't seem to be on offer.

The following morning we had the hotel breakfast in the Conservatory: no complaints here. A well-cooked breakfast and attentive service.

The one niggle was that on the second day, having spent the bulk of the day revisiting old haunts in Leeds and Headingley and doing a spot of shopping, we returned to our room at 1545 to discover that it hadn't been serviced. I mentioned this to the gentleman on reception but his response wasn't particularly apologetic, more 'well we've been busy'! Our intention was to have a brief rest, wash and brush-up but this was interrupted at 1700 by the room people. Is it too much to expect your room to be made up before midday?

We didn't have breakfast on the second day because we were meeting friends for lunch.

Overall a positive experience but let-down by some elements of service..

Room Tip: Probably best to avoid the ground floor

We have stayed here a view times. A wonderful, quirky hotel, that is superbly situated right opposite the bar and grill and walking distance to everything you could need. The rooms are beautifully decorated and spacious with such comfortable beds. Fabulous staircase and an honesty bar that makes you feel like a member of the family! Really to be recommended.

Room Tip: We have always picked an executive room as they are great value for money, but think next time we wi...

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend, meeting up with friends and seeing a show. The hotel is well appointed and convenient for the station. The staff are courteous and friendly but we were not given all the information we needed to find our way around the hotel. Signage to rooms and the conservatory restaurant is poor. We were in rooms above the main road; the bed was uncomfortable, the room hot, the traffic noisy and the air con did not work. We could not sit up in bed because there was no headboard, however there were two comfortable chairs in the room.
On the plus side the cooked breakfast was delicious although the range of food offered for the continental breakfast was not as good as one normally expects in a four star establishment. On our return to the hotel after the show we were hungry and we had a very nice sandwich in the Porters Lodge served very quickly and nicely presented. The hotel itself is in a very nice building, and has a wonderful stained glass window.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the front of the hotel as the traffic does not stop all night; the weather...

Hotel is perfectly fine, however the room we were allocated was incredibly noisy both from outside, and inside being next to the lift and next to a frequently used staff exit/ entrance. The room was clearly part of an extension to make it into a suite for the next room with a fold down bed, which was small for 2 and remarkably uncomfortable, angled towards the bottom end. The standard of the room spoilt the whole experience, which was part of a treat from my children. Very little sleep!
