“A good palce to stay”

42 The Calls. A small boutique hotel very close to the centre of Leeds. Situated on a quite road, the building is a superb conversion of a historic warehouse overlooking the canal running through the centre of the city. Everyone of the bedrooms is of a unique design and layout. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated each with their own high quality bathrooms. Communal space is limited. Only breakfast is available in the hotel. The breakfast is top notch with a remarkable selection of sausages to choose from. Service is discrete and efficient. A polite request to turn off the piped music in the breakfast room was readily agreed to without fuss. There are a number of eateries within a few minutes’ walk of the hotel. If you are arriving by train the walk from the station is about 7 minutes along some dingy alleyways and steep stairs – best to catch a taxi. There is no car park.

Thank you for posting your review.

It was lovely to read your comments regarding the building and decor.

Our chef Nigel is delighted with your comments regarding the breakfast which he has been cooking for many years.

We look forward to your return visit.

Lovely conversion, with so many unique touches. Loved the decor. Stayed in a room at the front of the hotel, the rooms at the back overlooking the canal must be amazing. Beautiful bathroom, extra large bathrobes and towels. Glass of wine on arrival a nice touch. Fantastic position, close to trendy restaurants ( the "Stew and Oyster" place next door is well worth a visit), 5 minute walk to cbd and market. Would definitely recommend.

I went to 42 the calls on a business trip and found it to be in a great location if you want to get out and see Leeds . The rooms are very comfy but a bit small in my case but the bathroom was very nicely decorated and quite roomy .
The food was of a good quality with a very good hearty breakfast in the morning . The only down sides were that the wifi did not work properly and the hotel has no car park being on the river front which made parking outside on a meter a bit of a task making sure your credit didn't run out .
Also can be quite noisy when your trying to sleep . From the sounds of drunken revellers .

Thank you for your review.

It was nice to read your comments regarding the location and the good quality of food.

There was an issue pointed out with the Wi-Fi in August, however we have since had a technician on site and this has been rectified.

We look forward to welcoming you back on your next business trip.

Every one has expectations some met some not leading to disappointment, and after reading a few mixed reviews about this quirky venue we were prepared to go with an open mind. It is very quirky venue with nooks and crannies and ups and downs, and our room was no different. It had a nice ambiance and feel and the bed was very comfy. Good range of this and that within the room short of nothing you would want for a stay, fridge ironing board, hair drier etc.

We were greeted with a complimentary glass of wine from very friendly and professional staff i would have loved to have tried the breakfast here but it was a bit on the expensive side but by all accounts an excellent breakfast.

The only down side to the experience, again quirky, was the tv service, nice little touch as it came out of the wardrobe on a shelf but too high and too small.

Would i stay here again ? in 217 yes definately would during the week it was quiet on a weekend hmmmmmmm don't really know see other reviews for that.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

I am pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay and will return.

Currently there are a number of rooms that have a smaller 15'' TV, we are in the process of changing this, but it will take time. If you would like to request a larger TV please let the reservations team know on booking.

We have just come back from a night stay for my husband's 40th birthday but were sadly disappointed.

Pro's:- comfy bed, excellent breakfast and good location, which we did not find noisy even though Saturday evening.

Sadly outweighed by cons:-even though upgraded to a suite it was tired dated decor wallpaper peeling off walls, dusty dirty carpet, shabby valances and sofa; unhelpful receptionist ( we were not offered any wine despite it being a special occasion, not informed about breakfast , not told about not drinking the water and more bottles could be available on request- we only read this the following day); 4pm is too late a check in; and in light of this for the price with no additional facilities such as spa or pool felt it was very overpriced for what actually getting - no wow factor.

Thank you for your review.

Despite your comfy bed, excellent breakfast and location I was concerned to read your comments regarding other areas that did not meet your expectations.

The hotel is undergoing a full refurbishment with some areas already completed and the next stage will be the bedrooms and suites.

It is very out of character for our reception team to come across as anything but helpful and friendly so I am very surprised you did not encounter this during your stay.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience and if you are in Leeds again please do contact me so I can personally oversee your reservation.

Kind regards

Booked this hotel to bring my wife to a concert but also chose it for the Free Wi Fi as I had some work to be arranged during our stay. Arrived at 1.30 pm and went to reception to get the parking location. The charming girl at reception partially booked me in and informed me that our room was "Not quite ready" this was no problem as it was a 4pm check-in. We went for a walk around and for a meal, returning at 4pm. This time another very polite girl informed us our Room would be 203 but was still not quite ready (2.5 hours after first being informed of this) . At this time a guest came into the hotel and to the reception desk requesting the key for Room 203 as he was checking out. The receptionist told us to sit down and gave us a glass of white wine (served at room temperature) and repeated that our room would be ready soon. The guest returned and checked out and a few minutes later we were informed our room was ready. The first impression of the room was that the carpet badly needed re-fitting, it was gathered in waves in the centre of the room. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was fine with a good shower. The TV was concealed in the top shelf of the wardrobe and slid out on a wooden shelf and there was always a danger of banging your head on it when walking past. Initially the TV would not come on and we had to get a chambermaid to fault-find. To get it to work it had to be pushed back into the wardrobe so that the next sliding door could be opened and in there was a system box that was switched off. With the TV working I tried to get the BBC Radio 5 for sports/news. Not possible. From the Radio Menu - Local Radio Leeds was available along with local stations for Scotland, Wales and Ireland but not BBC Radio 1, 2, 3,4, 5 etc. strange, these being the most popular UK Radio stations. North and South American radio stations along with Asia, Australasian and the Rest of Europe were available - very convenient?. Not to worry I thought I can access Radio 5 on my laptop via the free Wi-Fi. Not a hope in hell of getting the Wi-Fi to work and the information leaflet to log on gave a contact telephone number for Swisscom should a problem arise. A 10 minute call failed to resolve the problem and thinking the stone walls might be a problem I went to the reception area to try. When I got there an American lady having the same problem had her laptop on the reception desk again with no access. The receptionist admitted it was a very common issue and that she would contact Swisscom later. This was never resolved during our stay. On our return from the concert (11.30pm ) I fancied a beer but was informed there was only an honesty bar (a small fridge with a few bottled beers) outrageously priced - 330ml bottles of Becks, Bud etc. being £4.50 each. Gave that a miss and went upstairs to make a coffee with the cafetiere only to discover the mesh was missing from it rendering it useless. The plan was to have breakfast in the hotel but with all these miss-haps and thus fearing it would be way overpriced at £14.95 per person we ate out at café immediately opposite the multi storey car-park they sent us to. Coffee Duran provided us with a huge breakfast 3 bacon,2 sausage, 2 eggs, mushrooms, beans, tomatoes, hash brown, toast and a fresh, large Americano coffee for only £4.95, tremendous value. There has got to be loads of better value places to stay than 42 The Calls, The Travelodge at a fraction of their price could have supplied a comfortable bed and a decent shower which was all we could recommend at The Calls.

Thank you for your review.

I was most concerned to read your comments regarding your stay and I have fully investigated the areas mentioned.

I have spoken with all concerned regarding your room as you should not have had a further wait when you returned at 4pm.

An engineer from our Wi-Fi provider did dial in to investigate the low reception in certain areas of the hotel and this to my knowledge was resolved.

We are undergoing a refurbishment and hope in future to complete all bedrooms in the near future.

I am sorry that I was not able to personally speak with you regarding your comments during your visit and do hope that the team and I will see you at 42 The Calls again.

Stayed here on Saturday night (31st August)... fantastic little hotel but our stay was completely ruined by the continuous noise outside between the hours of midnight and 4am. The hotel is on the main throughfare from the waterside bars to the city centre and we were repeatedly woken by singing, fights, shouting, traffic and sirens.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor at the front. We were told that the rear rooms are just as bad. Not sure ho...

Thank you for your review.

Although you thought the hotel was fantastic, I was concerned to read you were disturbed by external noise.

Being located in the city centre it is difficult for us to control any external noise, however any reports of extreme noise levels are reported to the Leeds City Council.

Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience that this caused to you.
