I'd wanted to stay at 42 The Calls for years, and the chance had never come up. it was one of the original boutique hotels, and now looks a little tired, if I'm honest. A good price for a Friday night stay, but the bathroom smelled rather drain-y and the shower was worse than most Travelodges. Not great, really.

Thank you for your review.

Despite finding you had a good price for your Friday night stay I was concerned regarding your other comments.

I am unsure where the drain smell was coming from but had you mentioned this at the time the team would have been able to investigate this for you.

All our rooms are different in style and decor so if you do stay with us again then please ask the receptionist to allocate you a different room.

We have refurbished the communal areas and due to take this to the bedrooms in the future.

Kind regards

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here after finding a great deal on lastminute.com but would not hesitate to pay much more than we did! The location is second to none nestled deep in Leeds' fashionable Calls area. The room we stayed in was a Directors king room and was large with a big, VERY comfy bed. All the usual amenities were there with a couple of nice additions including white company toiletries. The room itself somehow managed to hold on to its boutique style whilst also having some really interesting features leftover from its grain mill roots!
All this was topped off with friendly, professional service to complete the perfect experience. HIGHLY recommended!

Thank you for your 5/5 review.

We all feel very lucky to work in a building that has so much character and history which I am glad you were able to appreciate.

We have recently changed to the White Company toiletries, which I have to say smell amazing.

Our Director rooms are very spacious with all but one overlook the river side.

I am pleased that you would highly recommend us and do look forward to your return visit.

Loved this funky hotel. Everything was fresh and clean. Lovely decor, really quirky - loved the little personal touches like the little frog soaps and the smarties on the bed when they did the turn down. Bed was lovely and comfy and huge which is always a plus. Breaksfast was a little on the expensive side at 13.00 for a continental so we didnt opt for that. We had a river view room and it was really quiet. Check out was quick and efficiant. My only very minor gripe was the shower. It served its purpose and was hot with good pressure but the bath was a lovely deep one, white company toiletries, lovely soft fluffy towels and bath robes that actually fit someone who isnt a size 8 but the shower was old and just not fitting to the rest of the hotel - a rain shower would be much more fittiing (although I am not sure if all the rooms are like that?)
However I will definately use this hotel again as its now one of my favourite ones in Leeds.

Room Tip: River view are very quiet

Thank you for taking the time to post your review.

It was lovely to read your comments regarding your stay.

Our frog soaps are very popular and we have these specially made for 42 The Calls and the smarties at turndown offer something different to the 'chocolate on the pillow'.

We look forward to you 'calling' again.

As usual, 42 The Calls did not let us down. A rare night away from the kids was spent in a lovely comfy room with a great view of the river. Staff are fantastic. So friendly and welcoming. It was pouring with rain when I arrived, but after a friendly chat with the receptionist I was quickly on my way up the stairs with a complimentary glass of wine in my hand. Our room was extremely clean and there are so many little touches that add to the enjoyment of our stay..from fresh milk in the fridge, homemade shortbread and the fantastic quirky look and feel of the decor. There is even an honesty bar in reception where you can make yourself a drink. 42 The Calls does something that you just don't find in many hotels - relaxed, individual service. We didn't have breakfast this time (as we ate quite late the night before) but in the past it has been delicious. My husband was very fond of the sausage menu! We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Leeds. This hotel is a real gem.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view!

Really enjoy staying at 42 The Calls;- they are dog-friendly, very welcoming. We had a corner room overlooking the canal - very comfortable bed and in the morning had a great cooked breakfast. This hotel is right in the City Centre with a 5 minute walk to the Corn Exchange. Parking was easy on the street outside the hotel -no charge between 6.00 pm until 10 am the following morning the weekend we were there.

Wow.. what a find. For the price of a generic chain hotel I had 4 nights of luxury! From the moment you step up outside your surrounded by style and that "special" service you sadly rarely find in the other big hotels.

Many thanks to Angela for making our stay simple to arrange! We will be back to you again.

Hotel was booked for me as a surprise, I loved the location overlooking river, close to train station, shops and the lively gay quarter of Leeds. As others have stated its a converted mill, lots of character, a Standard room that we had was very small, a standard room at a Premier inn gives y ou lots more space, the upgraded rooms have a lot more space but if your booking a standard it will be small. Cleanliness is Ok, slightly tired, bath ran cold at peak time 6pm, no hot water, however bath shower at tether times spot on.
A great hotel, for a non chain hotel experience. Not luxurious (standard room), we had a fab romantic weekend. Loved the privacy hatch!!, food served through hatch on corridor so as do not disturb. Didn't rate the room service food however, not very edible. Not sure what was paid for the room but don't think it was cheap. Would still recommend hotel to try to others.

Room Tip: If you can don't go for a standard room as very small, rooms overlooking river very nice

Thank you for your review.

Overall it seems you enjoyed your stay, however I was concerned to read some of your comments.

If you had made the team aware that you were not fully satisfied with your room service then they would have looked in to this for you and replace if necessary.

There should not have been an issue with the hot water unless there were problems with the boiler and if reported to the team we could have looked at this at the time.

Our privacy hatches are very popular, especially if you have booked a romantic getaway and do not want to be disturbed.

The team and I do hope to see you again in the future.

Kind regards
