“Great value for the Sunday Deal”
Reviewed 29 October 2010

We stayed here for my husbands 30th and had a lovely stay. This was the spend £75 in the restaurant and pay just £10 for your room

Plus Points:
Clean & Spacious Rooms
Lovely bar and restaurant (cocktails were expensive but lush!)
Card and chocolate left on the bed for my husbands birthday
Central and 5 mins walk to the shops
Parking is just a minutes walk away

Negatives:
Slow service in the restaurant - waited 20 + minutes for a glass of red wine.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel on the Sunday deal where you have to spend a minimum of £75 and then you get a standard room for £10, a superior for £20 and a deluxe for £30. We went for the deluxe.

The room was very nice - on the top floor and very spacious. It was immaculately clean and there were lovely toiletries you could take away. The room felt slightly more corporate than I was expecting and I was hoping for a roll-top bath but it was just a normal bath and a separate shower. Still – it was very nice. The bed was very comfortable and despite being close to Call Lane where there are lots of fun bars (even open late on Sunday) it was super quiet.

We had read some bad reviews about the restaurant so were a little apprehensive but the food was delicious. It’s worth knowing that you need to book your table in the restaurant as many people stay at the hotel on the Sunday deal and you can’t just show up expecting a table to be available. It was very busy when we ate and I think some people around us found the service a little slow, but we had no problems at all. The good thing too is that if you have drinks in the bar, they can count towards your £75.

My Fiance and I have stayed in quite a few Malmaison/De Vere hotels recently making the most of the 'Sunday suppliment' as you could always guarantee a lovely stay with a fantastic meal but came away very disappointed from the Leeds Malmaison. When we arrived we were made to wait in reception as our room wasn't ready despite at being 5:30pm. We were then given a twin room instead of a double (not much of a problem as the beds were still pushed together) which they hadn't cleaned properly as there were still bits all over the floor including someones hair clips. The bathroom floor was filthy and looked like it hadn't been washed in a while.
Went down to the bar early to have a drink before dinner and were told to take a seat as someone would take our order, we sat for 25 minutes before we were served then had to go straight for dinner where the service was equally as slow. We came away very disappointed with our stay. We have stayed in the Mal in Birmingham since then and were plased that they lived up to better standards.

Top service, relaxed atmosphere, coolly designed and well appointed. Room was a bit smaller than I hoped for, but maybe that's just the luck of the draw, perfect for the wife and I to base ourselves in while we mooch about town, take in a few of our old student haunts and then escape to thinking how far we've come since the days of Rickys and Stomp...

Stayed here 1 night. The hotel was fantastic the rooms were large, clean and comfortable.
The hotel management bent over backwards to help you enjoy your stay.

I only wish I could say the same of the Brasserie. We had included breakfast which we were looking forward to. However when we ordered, the drinks took 15 mins to arrive, the breakfast another 10 mins. The amount was tiny, it was cold and poorly cooked. The ordered drinks that arrived were also cold. The service was terrible. I feel really sorry for the reception manager who will end up dealing with all these complaints.

Great hotel, but eat elsewhere!!!!!!

Finally in our daughter's last year in Leeds we have found somewhere we enjoyed staying! Radisson Blu is souless, various apartments have been ok no more but we enjoyed out two nights in Malmaison.
Like its sister hotel chain Hotel du Vin it's all very stylish but like HDV the dark paintwork they go in for shows every bash so I think they should re-think it, it makes the corridors look tatty. That aside the room was really spacious and comfortable. If I had one complaint is was that lighting designers are all about style and not about practicality so even with all the lights on it wasn't very light. We were on floor 2 with wonderful proportions and high windows and it was a short stroll to the main shopping area. The restaurant is cosy and the staff are trying really hard, possibly a bit too hard - one keen young chap wanted to know if we'd like an 'apertiv' (sic) after our meal! But that is nit-picking. The menu is a bit restricted if you are not a huge meat eater but it is well positioned to stroll elsewhere, we ate the second night at the Indian attached to the Marriott nearby. We will return and look forward to it.

We stayed here on the Malmaison "Sundays Deal" after reading reviews praising the hotel. In all but one aspect it was excellent, especially so with regard to the helpful staff. However, our evening meal was a disappointment after what we'd been led to expect. As everything else was so good I'm confident that this was a "one off" but felt it should be mentioned. If we return to Leeds we will give the Malmaison a second chance.
