“spacious room”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

Stayed here overnight with my husband and would certainly recommend it. The staff were friendly, the room was large and clean, the bed comfortable and excellent wifi. It was very good value for money and the breakfast set you up till lunch! It was also very quiet.
The new owners are trying very hard to bring the hotel up to date and yes there is evidence in some areas where work needs doing but look beyond this and your stay will be relaxed.
For me the only downside was there was no hairdryer in the room, however towels and toiletries are provided in the room as is tea and coffee.
The local taxi service was reliable and efficient so leaving your car at the hotel to go into town isn't an issue

I found this hotel purely out of coincidence when doing a search on expedia where I got a room for the bargain price of £32 with 600 Nectar points thrown in by expedia!!!! Although the property is not in the city centre it was in the area that I needed to be for work about a 15 minute walk from St James Hospital. Its situated in a quiet residential area of the city opposite a park and is set back from the main road up a long steep drive. When I first saw the property from the road my initial reaction was oh god, what have I done but upon walking through the door my view immediately changed when I walked through to a lovely reception area with chandelier lightening and lovely artwork. Everything about the property was high quality, from the thick carpets upon the landing to the cute designer toiletries in the room. It appears to be an old house that has been converted into a high quality boutique style property that has carefully retained some of the original features. The manager was telling me they are only in their 15th week of operation. The room I had was extremely small but comfy and even the bed linen smelled really fresh and clean.Room came with flatscreen tv, inroom coffee making facilities and designer toiletries. Only thing missing was a chair which could easily have been squeezed in. I was unable to pick up a wifi signal in the room, probably cause my room was at the back of the hotel but got a really good signal downstairs in the lounge where preferred to hangout in the evenings anyway. This had a nice stylish atmosphere with large screen TV which I had to myself to watch the Chelsea match. They even served me a tv dinner along with a drink for only £5.99 which was tasty and a good size portion. I slept well except woke up at 3:00am soaked in sweat, although the duvet was pretty thick, could not work out why I was so hot, since being a lad I don't wear any pjs but only when I got up to open the window I suddenly realised that the heating was on full blast, so ensure you switch off your radiator before you crash if you want a comfortable night. even with the window open the room was very, very quiet, since I was facing onto the back of the building. The breakfast which was currenly complimentary, so hope that continues to be the case was excellent quality and included a cafetiere of lovely filter coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice and Danish pastries that were amazing!!! cereals, yoghurt and fruit along with breadrolls and cheese if that's your thing. A lovely stay. Left for a day of meetings feeling recharged and well rested. I look forward to many repeat visits when back in town.

I stayed here for 3 nights and overall it was a nice hotel. The breakfast was continental style which was reasonable. The hotel is very clean and tidy. You need your own transport as the hotel is not seved very well with good bus service.Wi-fi is poor in the room and digital tv reception was poor. The staff are very helpfull and friendly

My wife and I made a an unplanned visit to see our daughter at Leeds University. We found this hotel about 10 minutes away by car. It was made clear that this was a ' Work in Progress' and it certainly was. However do not let this put you of, the staff were friendly and helpful, do room was large with tea/coffee facilities and nice toiletries , bath robes and slippers. We had a en-suite (recommended) and although there are lots of bits not quite completed or not finished it was comfortable, clean and welcoming. This property has so much potential but needs a lot of money spent to bring it up to the next level. But this was great value with off road parking and a continental breakfast ( a good breakfast with choice). We would have no hesitation staying here again especially as we now know what to expect. Be clear it is not perfect but better than a Premier Inn/Travel Lodge sorte'. Ultimately you can see that they are trying to make improvements and we wish them well whilst appreciating the need to remain open whilst this work is in progress. We have paid 2 or 3 times the rate for accommodation that on the surface looks superior but ultimately the real difference has been a full English breakfast and a coat of gloss paint. Good Luck to the High Bank Hotel for the future.

Room Tip: Try to get an en-suite, shared facilities can be awkward.

I spent there 3 nights. The room was really essential, but extremely clean. I shared the bathroom with other people and, despite of it, it was always clean. The Wi-Fi is free in all the hotel and it is really fast (I watched films without problems).
It is not situated at the centre of the city, but the centre can be easily reached by bus (12/13/13A) and it takes about 10 minutes to get there. The breakfast was good and the owner was extremely kind and willing, he helped me a lot when needed. It is a very good solution for those who don't want to spend too much finding a good service at the same time.

I stayed here for three nights in february, i have never stayed before, have always used city centre. expecting to slum it on the accomodation. This was far, far from the actual experience which far exceeded expectations and better than any hotel for both comfort and service provided by the owners . I shall definately return for the chapletown carnival, this is just across the road,, Perfect still dreaming of falling asleep in that comfortable bed, The Full English Breakfast is of a very high standard and is well worth the value, i am seriously considering a return every now and then., On a more serious note, DO NOT TAKE ANY NOTICE OF REVIEWS OLDER THAN 14 MONTHS... New Owners are Brill Thanks. x x x

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor seem to be the best for 100% silence.
