“a good afternoon out”
Reviewed 4 March 2009

Industrial museum in an old mill building, mainly focussing on the history of the Leeds textile industry. Great old cineam 'relocated' from nearby Armley shows a fascinating 1hr film about the history of Leeds. Nice touch was a visitors book where people who worked in the mills to record their memories.

Very close to (the free) Kirkstall Abbey so can make it a full day.

“A lovely little piece of industrial history”
Reviewed 15 June 2008

Armley Mills (also known as Leeds Industrial Museum) is tucked away off a dusty car park (which is free to park) The staff will show you into the Weavers Cottage which is set up to show how both the rich and poor would have lived at the time. Then you are left to walk through the mill at your leisure. However staff are always on hand to answer any questions.

The mill itself is a massive well maintained building, with a vast amount of heavy machinery and information boards explaining the way things were.

I loved the 1920's cinema they have recreated and the history of Leeds film that is shown.

There is a lovely quiet area for picnics with plenty of tables, ideal for children to play or to just relax. Gorgeous on a sunny day. A suprising, quiet haven in the middle of an inner city area.

Well worth a few hours of your time, good for kids and adults alike. A nice cheap day out with free parking, entrance adults £3 and Children £1.

Combine with a visit to Kirkstall Abbey and Abbey Mills museum which is just a 10 minute drive away.
