I had the unfortunate pleasure of going for a family lunch this weekend here. I was genuinely shocked at how bad the service was and the food. It took over an hour for a sunday lunch to arrive and when it did it was not the nicest. We had to wait twenty minutes for four other meals to come out while our went cold.

I wouldnt be returning here again

As title suggests, the location of this pub is excellent, right next to Roundhay park - as a result they have a gaurenteed customer base, so really no need to invest in quality. The food is poor, well just the same as any chain pub really, I had chicken and leak pie - the chicken was really dry, and the pie itself was almost empty with air filled pastry. Service is pretty poor too. Price certainly does not reflect the quality

Having a day out with the children to Tropical world we decided to go to the Roundhay Fox for something to eat...Set in a lovely location within Rounday Park we thought that this would be a good place to eat.. "well we thought wrong" What a terrible experiance!!!!...We ordered a boar burger and the crispy chicken and the kids ordered soup for starter with sausage&mash and BBQ chicken...We sat outside as it was warm and sunny and after 20mins a member of staff came to our table and said that they had run out of boar so would we be ok with burger instead! which was cheeper on the menu and was never refunded the difference...Having waited another 20mins and people coming and going and by this time it had started to rain I had to ask staff where our food was? and was told it was now been served up...A different member of staff then fetched my kids food out to the table the soup and there main meal...How could my kids eat both at once!!! the sausage was burnt and the meal was cold so i had to send this back....another member of staff fetched out our other meals and returned with the saus&mash still burnt!! The food was rubbish and not worth the money!!! even the kids left it and we ended up leaving the pub still hungry!!!... rubbish service!!! long waiting times!!!rubbishfood!!!! Will not be going back!!

Fantastic location, great to sit outdoors and view the area, BUT food is expensive for average pub rated food, Ordered two steaks both well done, arrived one rare, and well done finally arrived when everyone else in party half way through there meals, the steak was like rubber, fatty and not worth the money never mind the wait,After 20 mins kids were still waiting for there puddings already ordered and we had to remind staff again.would not recomend and will not go again.

This is local to us and the location is perfect being opposite Tropical World and at the entrance to the main park. Inside it is a rustic experience with low beams, eclectic furniture and open fires. Sunday lunches are advertised as a speciality with four different meats and reasonable prices. All the ingredients are there for a perfect Sunday lunch but beware.
I booked this for an extended family gathering; seven people spanning three generations. Arriving at 2.25 for our 2.30 table booking we were kept waiting at the bar for 25 minutes. There was nowhere to sit so we all stood- not good when three of the party are elderly.
When we were finally shown to our table we were told that the roast beef had run out so three of my party were disappointed before even making an order. Food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering but waiting staff needed reminding that we needed a sauce tray. This arrived but was missing mustard which we had to ask for separately. A request for a jug of tap water with glasses was finally met after two requests. Each time we needed service a different waitress responded- the whole operation lacked co-ordination. Food (roast lamb, roast chicken, roast turkey) was of reasonable quality and portion sizes good for the price paid. Kids portions adequate and good value. Real ales well kept.
Desserts were ordered and were also good so the food is not the problem here. The occasion was made stressful by haphazard service and a lack of consideration for the needs of the party.
I really hope that The Fox can get its act together as I love the pub for its location and atmosphere but I will be using the rival Deer Park or The Whitehouse if we ever do Sunday lunch in Roundhay again.
