I live in yeadon and walk round the dam approx 3 times a week. The council has now refurbished an old area near the top end which is very nice. There is a grebe nesting for the first time I think and swans are trying to nest.let's hope they can find a secure area. First time for them I believe.
School holidays and weekends can get very busy with kids on little scooters and would be dangerous if they they ran into your ankles.
There are also a couple of homeless people hanging about at the tarn and have a tent in a field. The police know about them and say they are waiting for a house.
Plenty of wildlife and seating round the tarn.
Dont like the new ice cream man though. He wants to give you pink ice cream and expects you to say that you want white otherwise you will get pink.
Ice cream is normally white from an ice cream van so what's with the pink??
He should ask me if I would like white or pink.

Great place to go on a sunny afternoon, great for dogs to have a run around and a swim in the lake, also good if you and your partner want to go on a walk you should go here and have a stroll around the lake and enjoy seeing the wildlife. Also good for photographers or plane spotters as it is right next to the airport. If you would like to see some photos i have taken then check out my page Jess Hamilton Photography Leeds .

We come to the Tarn a lot in summer and really love to spend a lazy afternoon walking round with an ice cream. The wildlife is a plus but when the boats are out it is fantastic.. they go pretty quick too. Bread for the ducks is a must.

How typical of the ignorant parents of today who seem to think it is fine to let their kids do as they like. The 'no cycling' signs at the tarn apply to everyone and do not exclude your children. I am not an OAP but use the tarn on a daily basis and regularly see children with no regard for anyone speeding round on scooters and going in to the back of people. The tarn is a beauty spot to be enjoyed by all and it is a shame you cannot encourage your kids to enjoy it on foot as a family so they are not a nuisance to the rest of the users there. This is not the place for scooters and bikes but i am sure there are suitable places if you bother to look for them.
As for the Tarn it is a lovely, happy place and highly respected by most users. Excellent for the kids to feed the ducks and swans etc and a chance for parents to teach them to respect nature.
