Thorpe Park Hotel & Spa

Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 5 January 2012

One night stay booked as a treat after a busy year where we didn't have time for a longer holiday. Priced reasonably. Service on reception very friendly and efficient. Car parking easy but can't remember if we had to pay for it.

The swimming pool/sauna area was fine - the steam room was out of order for part of the afternoon but this is a niggle rather than a disaster.

The spa was very good and we both enjoyed a massage as an extra treat. A little expensive but treatment rooms, insurance, running costs and everything else has to be paid for I suppose - like any business. The bar was stylish yet welcoming with very good service and no need to wait to order at the bar. The nibbles of olives and crisps were welcome and of high quality. Beer (bitter) and wine (rose) both of good quality and not that expensive for an hotel.

The meal in the restaurant was excellent. Aged balsamic vinegar was new to me and quite addictive. My main of steak was very tender indeed, to the extent that I wondered if it had been cooked sous vide? I don't know but it was tender and tasty whatever. Service excellent. I suspect many people visit the hotel just to go to the restaurant and that would make sense.

On a less positive note, the bedroom was roasting hot all night and all attempts at us using the air conditioner failed - it simply did not seem to work. Opening the window was the only option but this is not ideal on a windy night. Aside from that the room was comfy and quiet enough, although I never seem to find a hotel room anywhere that is really really quiet.

Overall a positive experience as the rating suggests. Clearly a well designed and well run hotel and somewhere we would return to for a similar trip.

Thank you for the lovely review and we’re pleased to have been your little escape after the hectic new year. I’m sorry the heating was playing up in your room – we will make sure that it’s checked over. Glad that you have discovered our aged Balsamic - it’s one that we have lots of good comments about and is something a little unusual. Look forward to welcoming you back soon – perhaps in the summer when you enjoy the al fresco terrace too.

Kind Regards

One of the best new year breaks we have had.
Nice hotel with friendly staff and great food.
New years eve night was great again great meal and the disco man up to midnight was fantastic playing party music, went of a bit after 12 playing heavy disco stuff, should have stuck with the party stuff which is what 95 % wanted.
Over all a great place to spend new year.

Room Tip: Rooms a bit small but ok

Thanks for choosing to welcome in 2012 with us and I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the party. The feedback about the disco was useful to have and we’ll make sure that we remember to brief that in for the 2013 parties.

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year 2011 whilst visiting relatives in Leeds we have done so for the last couple of years and always found it to be a good hotel with very pleasant and helpful staff. We stayed in one of the executive rooms and it was spacious, clean and well equipped. I particularly liked the provision of a small carton of fresh milk in the fridge, which is so much better than the usual UHT milk supplied.

The SPA facilities pool, sauna and steam room are good and my wife made use of the the opportunity for a post Christmas massage which was also excellent. Breakfast is well delivered with the usual choice of full English or fruit, cereals, bread etc.

Overall this is the best Hotel to stay in if you are visiting east Leeds. They proudly display their certificate of excellence from TripAdvisor on the reception desk and continue to work hard to maintain their high standards.

Really pleased you enjoyed all facilities at Thorpe Park and thank you very much for recognising the Hotel teams service during your stay. We very much hope you will have the opportunity to come back and take advantage of some of the great “Spa” or “Spring” Breaks the hotel is offering this year.
Many thanks again for taking the time to post your response.

I generally stay at the Thorpe Park Hotel once a week as I live down south and have an office nearby. As such I have tried most of the hotels in the area and Thorpe Park are head and sholders above the rest. The hotel is modern with excellent facilities and friendly staff. The largest attractions for me is good health and leisure facilities, restaurant and sky sports in the rooms. Its generally slightly more expensive than local competitors but definately worth it.

Only draw back is the hotel is part of a small chain, so if you collect loyalty points you are limited to only a few hotels nationwide.

Thank you for leaving a review – I’m pleased to hear that we make staying away from home whilst on business a little easier for you. Our Affinity loyalty programme is about to be extended to cover our ‘little sisters’ – Thwaites Inns of Character – which will give you six more locations to earn and redeem your points at. We’ll be sending information out to all members in late February.

We initially had a few problems with our initial booking but having spoken to the reservations manager everything was put right immediately and we were back on track for looking forward to our break.
When we arrived we had been upgraded to a suite, which we assumed were due to the initial mix up and boy did it surpass all expectations!! The room was light, modern, spacious and very well equipped and we were made very welcome from the onset.
The spa treatment were excellent and the therapists very friendly. The food was gorgeous and well presented and again all the staff were very friendly and helpful.
The spa break at the outset appeared good value for money and it was that and much more when you considered the individual costs of the package. The only downside is that we found the drinks a little costly.
But a bit 10/10 and saving up for the next trip

Room Tip: If planning on using the spa facilities and or treatment rooms request a group floor room as very cl...
